About The Position

The Assistant University Counsel (Attorney) reports to the Office of University Counsel (OUC) and provides legal services to the University. The Attorney reviews, drafts, negotiates, and manages a variety of contracts and transactional documents, including services agreements, non-disclosure agreements, software licenses, information technology agreements, consulting agreements, property-related agreements, executive search firm agreements, performance and speaker agreements, exhibition and equipment loan agreements, digital education contracts, revenue-generating arrangements, and other related agreements. The position also provides legal support to Procurement Services, including advising on state procurement laws, strategic sourcing and vendor management, and other aspects of procurement operations. The position will also assist with contract administration, including updating contracting playbooks, reviewing contract provisions, and providing general legal advice to the unit. The Attorney conducts legal research and provides advice on contractual matters and applicable federal and state laws, regulations, and University policies.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of law.
  • Be a licensed attorney in good standing in North Carolina or able to become one within one year of joining the University.
  • A minimum of two years of relevant legal experience.
