The Senior Underwriter for Allied Healthcare will operate within established guidelines to analyze, review, evaluate, and monitor new and renewal accounts for the Allied Healthcare Practice. This role involves exercising independent judgment in processing accounts and managing underwriting activities, typically supporting $4 million to $6 million in Gross Written Premium (GWP). The ideal candidate will possess expertise in Allied Healthcare Professional Liability, a proven track record of success with a top-tier Commercial Insurance carrier, and will focus on developing a book of business targeting healthcare clients across the United States. Strong connections within the allied healthcare and professional lines wholesale broker channels are essential. The position requires experience in portfolio management, including soliciting submissions, underwriting analysis, preparing and issuing indications/quotations/binders, and marketing. Beyond technical skills, the role demands an executive presence, strong communication, influencing abilities, and the capacity to build solid relationships that contribute to business value and long-term strategic initiatives. The work profile offers a hybrid environment for Chicago, Atlanta, and New York (two days remote, three days in-office) and is 100% remote for individuals in Texas. Regular travel for broker and client meetings, as well as attendance at industry and company events, is also required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in underwriting in Allied Healthcare and/or other Healthcare Professional Liability lines of business.
  • Strong presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to establish broker relationships within the region
  • Proven history of success in a top-tier Commercial Insurance carrier
  • Strong connections within the allied healthcare and professional lines wholesale broker channels
  • Experienced in portfolio management, including soliciting submissions, underwriting analysis, preparing and issuing indications/quotations/binders, and marketing

Responsibilities

  • Strategically prospect new opportunities Allied Healthcare clients.
  • Manage a book of business including developing new business opportunities and cross-marketing of product lines within AXIS.
  • Meet divisional servicing objectives related to quote turnaround, policy issuance, phone management, renewal management, file maintenance, and documentation.
  • Analyze and underwrite individual risks.
  • Develop appropriate limit structure, retention, pricing, and endorsements within underwriting guidelines.
  • Continue to develop and update product and underwriting knowledge.
  • Participate in prospecting by identifying new business targets and opportunities and working closely with wholesale brokers to ensure the department receives the opportunity to offer proposals.
  • Make strategy recommendations to the supervisor.
  • Review and evaluate primarily new business based on company underwriting guidelines, competition, and geographic focus.
  • Develop strategy and make recommendations.
  • Perform broker marketing calls, including out-of-state travel.
  • Solicit new accounts, gather market intelligence, and deliver up-to-date department information on products and services.
  • Manage select agency relationships to ensure objectives are achieved.
  • Maintain up-to-date familiarity with economic and legal factors impacting the department’s business lines and the insurance industry.
  • Participate in special projects department initiatives.
  • Coordinate with branch marketing representatives and profit center representatives to allow for cross-marketing.
