About The Position

The Senior Underwriter, P&C Programs plays a key role in driving the profitability, growth, and underwriting excellence of Arch's Programs business. Partnering closely with Program Managers and underwriting leadership, this individual will evaluate complex risks, guide underwriting strategy, and deliver data-driven recommendations that enhance portfolio performance. The ideal candidate combines strong technical underwriting expertise with strategic thinking, sound judgment, and the resilience to navigate complex challenges while driving profitable growth. This will be a hybrid position in Harford, CT with up to 15% travel for Program Administrator visits, industry events, internal meetings, and professional development opportunities.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of commercial lines underwriting experience; 5+ years preferred.
  • Strong technical underwriting, analytical, and risk assessment skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions, solve complex problems, and influence outcomes.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills.
  • Resilience and adaptability, with the ability to remain effective under pressure, embrace change, and consistently deliver results in a complex and evolving environment.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite and manage referrals for assigned programs, ensuring alignment with underwriting guidelines, risk appetite, and business objectives.
  • Exercise sound underwriting judgment within delegated authority and recommend enhancements to authority, pricing, coverage, and underwriting strategies where appropriate.
  • Analyze program performance, claims activity, referral trends, and market intelligence to identify opportunities for profitable growth and improved results.
  • Partner with Program Managers on portfolio management, annual planning, and performance monitoring to ensure programs remain aligned with strategic goals.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Property, Ceded Reinsurance, Corporate Underwriting, Actuarial, Product, and Compliance.
  • Conduct and support underwriting audits of assigned programs and participate in peer reviews as needed.
  • Represent the Programs division with internal and external stakeholders on underwriting matters and strategic initiatives.
  • Lead or contribute to projects that enhance underwriting performance, operational effectiveness, and business results.
