About The Position

Hiscox USA is currently searching for a dynamic, engaging and solutions-oriented Sr. Underwriter to drive new professional liability business and complex renewal business within the MPL sector in the West Coast region. This position provides a unique opportunity for a professional liability specialist to join a fast paced, dynamic team to write policies tailored to the specific requirements of the MPL sector. Lines of business include commercial general liability, professional liability (E&O) and cross-sold Cyber from time to time. We also specialize in accountants, real estate agents, property managers, trustees, consultants, freight forwarders, staffing firms, TPAs, associations, and more! Risks vary greatly in size and complexity (from start-ups to large, multinational entities). We provide an entrepreneurial climate that values and rewards thoughtful risk taking, excellence in execution and ownership in body of work.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in professional E&O coverage; experience preferred
  • Customer-centric mind-set and passionate about the power of superior customer service and offerings
  • Strong understanding of sales principles, presentation, negotiation skills and demonstrate a competitive drive
  • Team-oriented, ability to collaborate and desire to share information across divisions and teams to further the overall goals of the company
  • Proven track record of understanding and delivering meaningful underwriting profit
  • Outgoing, driven, high attention to detail and results focused mentality
  • The ability to identify business needs
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently in a collaborative environment
  • Innate service focus which enables one to effectively interact with all levels of internal and external customers and partners
  • B.A./B.S degree is preferred
  • Willingness to develop business, with travel throughout the West Coast, including the Mid-West and Mountain States up to 25%, required

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite, price and negotiate accounts consistent with the quality of the risk and according to the company’s strategy and guidelines for the product lines: Miscellaneous Professional Liability Insurance
  • Develop new broker relationships and increase depth of existing broker relationships throughout the West Coast region to drive production
  • Engage with the national MPL team to learn and teach collaboratively
  • Maintain excellent customer service standards
  • Consistently exceed minimum quote output numbers established by MPL manager
  • Regional travel required including industry events and broker visits
