About The Position

Everest Canada is building a dynamic Commercial Property team, and you have the opportunity to join as a Senior Underwriter with a strong passion for the industry. In this role, you will work alongside the national underwriting team and review accounts from across Canada. This is a hybrid position, requiring you to work out of the Toronto office. Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of Commercial Property underwriting experience.
  • Experience underwriting large, complex risks.
  • In‑depth underwriting expertise in: Large multinational clients. A wide variety of occupancies, including manufacturing, heavy manufacturing, metals, real estate, and forestry.
  • Demonstrated experience or aptitude with predictive modeling and data visualization tools for risk pricing and portfolio management.
  • Proven ability to interpret complex data sets and translate AI‑generated insights into underwriting strategies.
  • Strong insured and broker relationships, with the ability to effectively target current and prospective contacts.
  • High degree of integrity and alignment with Everest’s cultural values.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with internal teams and external brokers.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Digital agility in learning and using evolving underwriting platforms, including AI‑assisted tools.
  • Data literacy to assess data sources, model outputs, and automated insights for potential bias or anomalies.
  • Excellent organizational, time‑management, and multitasking abilities.
  • Willingness to travel up to approximately 25%.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; advanced designations such as CIP, FCIP, or CRM are assets.
  • An engineering degree is also a plus.
  • Bilingual English/French skills (an asset).

Responsibilities

  • Marketing to producers to secure new and renewal business.
  • Reviewing submissions, terms and conditions, statements of values, loss history, and catastrophic modeling, and conducting appropriate research to determine the degree of risk based on company guidelines and your underwriting authority.
  • Coordinating with business divisions including Engineering, Actuarial, Claims, Reinsurance, Accounting, Marketing, Regulatory, and others that support the business.
  • Determining whether to quote or decline risks.
  • Pricing risks.
  • Developing and modifying policy wording within your underwriting authority when standard forms are not appropriate.
  • Leveraging AI-driven underwriting workbenches and predictive analytics to enhance risk selection accuracy and speed.
  • Validating automated risk insights and data outputs using your underwriting judgment to ensure nuanced decision-making on complex accounts.
  • Identifying opportunities to use digital tools to streamline submission intake and analyze unstructured data.
  • Actively cross‑selling offered products and services.
  • Supporting service standards in the delivery of commercial property products.
  • Working effectively with other key members of your team.
  • Developing innovative solutions for clients and broking partners to differentiate Everest Canada’s market offering.
  • Mentoring junior underwriting team members.
  • Actively participating in, leading, and supporting presentations and special projects assigned by senior management.
