This position applies and expands underground transmission line engineering knowledge, including routing, duct bank configurations, manhole placement, and electrical principles. The engineer designs underground transmission lines for voltages up to 500 kV and handles cost analyses, design criteria, siting and routing challenges, and manhole placement. Physical design work includes duct bank layouts, trenchless designs, cable-pulling calculations, and drawing packages. The role also covers cable selection studies, bonding schemes, ampacity calculations, riser structure configurations, and structural loading. The engineer develops procurement and construction specifications for cables, duct banks, trenchless installation, and general construction; coordinates with clients and vendors on transmission line components; and directs a small project team of engineers, designers, and drafters. The position requires at least five years of project-team experience on diverse underground transmission projects, a bachelor's degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program, and proficiency with CYMCAP modeling and cable tensioning calculations or software. The employer does not sponsor U.S. work authorization for this position. Sargent & Lundy describes its benefits as supporting employee health, well-being, and work-life balance.
