About The Position

This high-impact, influential role offers a unique opportunity to lead a dedicated team and serve as a key member of the Latin America Leadership team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in driving the underwriting and strategic management of a critical business portfolio, ensuring alignment with the rigorous guidelines set by the MSARMi Board of Directors. You will hold principal responsibility for the high-growth Caribbean markets, reporting directly to the Head of Underwriting Latin America. This senior position requires deep, specialized expertise and a proven track record of success within the Caribbean Treaty reinsurance market.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience working with or in Latin America, with proven and extensive expertise in the Caribbean Treaty reinsurance market.
  • Existing strong working relationships with clients and brokers in the Caribbean region.
  • Detailed and extensive working knowledge of the Caribbean Treaty reinsurance sector.
  • Must have hands-on portfolio control experience including the use of technical rating and catastrophe aggregation systems.
  • Well-developed business and social skills and capabilities for strengthening client/broker relationships.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills coupled with strong negotiation skills.
  • Full proficiency in English and Spanish required.
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Suite of applications.
  • Must be willing to travel and work extended hours where and when appropriate.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced skills in Excel are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Quote, underwrite, service and process the Caribbean Reinsurance Treaty account as per the company Underwriting Policies and Guidelines as modified from time to time.
  • Deputize other Underwriters as required and expressly authorized.
  • Maintain a suitable working knowledge of all classes of business.
  • Analyze the market and target potential new clients, brokers, and products.
  • Maintain and build relationships with existing clients and brokers through regular visits and conferences – extensive travel to Caribbean countries required.
  • Monitor market developments and assist in the construction of annual income and profit plans for classes of business.
  • Review a broad cross section of risks, quotes, and endorsements within assigned parameters.
  • Check renewals regularly and review by exception.
  • Review underwriting figures on a regular basis in order that unusual trends, data integrity issues, and/or adverse movements may be dealt with by appropriate action.
  • Remain alert to developments affecting the business, potential profitability, and opportunities for the company, and to report on such matters as appropriate.
  • Provide effective oversight and input into underwriting performance; ensure compliance with relevant risk, regulatory and legal requirements, and Group policies.
