Job Summary TYLin is seeking a Senior Transportation Planner with a particular focus on Vision Zero and safety action planning; policy development; designing and implementing projects that improve safety for all users; and inclusive community engagement. The candidate will serve as TYLin’s Safe Mobility champion in New York and the Northeast in partnership with the national Safe Mobility Lead. They will work as part of an interdisciplinary team of consultants (planning, transportation engineering, data analytics, civil engineering, etc.) across TYLin offices in New York and the Northeast to manage and contribute to a portfolio of safety projects and assist in the growth of the local practice. Responsibilities & Qualifications Ideal candidates will be solutions-focused, with the ability to contribute significantly to data analyses, conceptual design, problem solving, and report writing; will be client-facing, with the ability to communicate persuasively and develop positive team dynamics; and will have demonstrated experience managing transportation projects, including the ability to understand and anticipate the larger client and business needs while successfully managing day-to-day project demands. Responsibilities will include serving as project manager or deputy project manager; leading and supporting local project proposals; and contributing to growing the technical acumen of local staff in planning for and implementing the Safe System approach.

Requirements

  • 7 to 10 years of urban planning experience
  • Degree in urban planning, urban design, or related field
  • Experience managing transportation planning and/or design projects, including management of staff, budgets, and clients
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Understanding of, and interest in, marketing, networking, and business development
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, ArcGIS, Adobe Creative Suite, and/or other industry software

Nice To Haves

  • AICP certification preferred
  • Involvement in relevant professional organizations locally and/or nationally (e.g., APA, APBP, TRB, ITE, Vision Zero Network, or others as relevant)
  • Familiarity with industry best practices, especially in Vision Zero planning and implementation, the Safe System approach, and bicyclist and pedestrian safety and standards and guidelines (e.g., MUTCD, NACTO, AASHTO, and other relevant guidelines)

Responsibilities

  • Leading interdisciplinary project teams
  • Leading the development of technical reports and presentations
  • Facilitating diverse teams of professionals and stakeholders to develop plan documents, safety studies, and conceptual street designs
  • Analyzing transportation data and communicating results
  • Developing and applying innovative data analysis techniques
  • Managing safety and Vision Zero projects, including tracking budgets and schedules, and implementing QA/QC processes
  • Contributing to the growth and maintenance of client relationships
  • Supporting business development initiatives and production of proposals
  • Occasional fieldwork and site visits
