About The Position

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Senior Transportation Planner or Engineer in Denver, Colorado, to help grow its transportation planning expertise. The role supports high-profile transportation projects for local municipalities, state DOTs, and federal clients in Colorado and elsewhere. The position leads technical elements of transportation planning and traffic engineering studies, including program support, corridor and safety studies, operational analyses, and large-scale transportation system analyses. It helps shape study approaches, coordinate multidisciplinary technical work, and inform planning, environmental, and transportation investment decisions. Depending on project needs, the employee may serve as a technical lead, task lead, deputy project manager, or project manager. The role involves leading or overseeing complex transportation analyses and modeling, including traffic microsimulation, traffic operations, system performance, travel demand, multimodal mobility, safety, and future transportation needs. The employee may perform analyses directly or provide technical oversight to staff developing models, evaluating alternatives, and preparing technical documentation. The position also calls for synthesizing complex findings into clear, actionable recommendations and communicating them to clients, agencies, stakeholders, and project teams. Experience with TransModeler is preferred; expertise with comparable platforms such as VISSIM or Aimsun will also be considered. The position supports corridor and transportation planning studies, safety assessments, multimodal analyses, and environmental documentation. Additional work may include mentoring junior staff, quality assurance and quality control, project management, proposal development, and business development. Familiarity with FHWA processes, alternatives analysis, and transportation studies supporting NEPA documentation is preferred but not required.
