About The Position

The Sr Manager of Export Transportation is responsible for the strategic leadership, operational oversight, and financial performance of Tyson’s export transportation network. This role provides end-to-end oversight of all export shipments to ensure execution against defined service, cost, and visibility KPIs while supporting world-class customer service to international markets. This leader works cross-functionally with internal stakeholders and external logistics providers to optimize export operations across all transportation modes, improve network efficiency, eliminate unplanned transportation spend, and drive continuous improvement throughout the international supply chain. The role has direct leadership responsibility for export operations teams supporting Tyson’s global transportation network. Key responsibilities include strategic carrier and provider management, export capacity planning, operational execution, compliance alignment, cost optimization, and development of scalable transportation solutions that create competitive advantage for Tyson Foods.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business, or related field preferred. Equivalent combination of education and 15+ years of progressive experience in Logistics, Distribution, Transportation, or Global Supply Chain leadership will be considered.
  • 15+ years of leadership experience in global transportation, export logistics, or supply chain operations.
  • Proven experience managing global carrier procurement and transportation provider relationships.
  • Experience leading large-scale export transportation operations with direct operational accountability.
  • Demonstrated success managing P&L performance, transportation budgets, and cost optimization initiatives.
  • Experience leading multi-site operations and managing General Managers or senior operational leaders preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
  • Experience with transportation management systems (TMS), supply chain platforms, visibility tools (Fourkites), and operational reporting systems.
  • Strong executive-level written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate effectively across executive leadership, operations, customers, and external providers.
  • Deep expertise in global transportation operations, ocean shipping, export logistics, and international markets.
  • Strong analytical, operational, and strategic planning capabilities.
  • Proven ability to drive operational optimization, transportation mode strategy, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Experience developing KPI frameworks, operational metrics, and performance accountability structures.

Responsibilities

  • Lead cross-functional collaboration with export procurement and logistics providers including: Ocean carriers, Container Freight Stations/Outside Cold Storage facilities, Intermodal providers, Rail carriers, Over-the-road transportation providers, Air freight partners
  • Ensure alignment across transportation, procurement, operations, sales, customer service, compliance, finance, and international business teams to execute strategic export initiatives.
  • Oversee execution and performance management of all export shipments to ensure adherence to defined KPIs including: On-time delivery, Cost-to-serve, Carrier performance, Transit time reduction, Customer service metrics
  • Drive optimization of transportation modes and routing strategies to improve service performance, maximize asset utilization, and reduce overall transportation spend.
  • Identify and eliminate unplanned and non-value-added transportation costs through improved planning, network design, carrier management, and operational discipline.
  • Maintain collaborative procurement strategies for export capacity across ocean, drayage, rail, OTR, intermodal, and air freight providers.
  • Strengthen strategic relationships with transportation providers and international logistics partners.
  • Deliver expected business results by balancing customer-first service execution with operational efficiency and optimal cost-to-serve.
  • Partner with systems, product, and compliance teams to support digital enablement, automation, shipment visibility, and compliance for all export commodities and products shipped internationally.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives, process standardization, and change management efforts across export transportation operations.
  • Support Tyson Foods and enterprise-wide strategic initiatives.
  • Lead and develop General Managers driving accountability, operational execution, talent development, and succession planning.
  • Align with Finance and Director of Exports on the Annual Operating Plan and ensure delivery of financial commitments and productivity targets.
  • Provide strategic oversight of export transportation operations to ensure consistent execution, service reliability, and KPI attainment across all export flows.
  • Plan and optimize export transportation resources to meet and exceed international service goals while minimizing cost and operational disruptions.
  • Drive mode optimization initiatives across ocean, rail, truckload, drayage, intermodal, and air freight to improve efficiency and reduce total landed cost.
  • Lead initiatives focused on reducing unplanned spend, including detention, demurrage, storage, premium freight, accessorial charges, and service recovery costs.
  • Participate in and support execution of Ocean, Drayage, and Domestic Transportation RFPs with the objective of balancing service, capacity, and cost competitiveness.
  • Secure committed carrier capacity and improve shipment visibility, tracking, and customer communication throughout the export supply chain.
  • Optimize origin container loading and transportation planning to reduce transit time and improve service to international customers.
  • Partner cross-functionally with internal and external stakeholders to develop contingency plans and risk mitigation strategies related to market disruptions, capacity constraints, geopolitical events, and provider performance.
  • Continuously improve export product flow efficiency by leveraging market trends, forecasting, analytics, and customer demand insights to align strategic initiatives with world-class service and lowest possible cost.
  • Ensure compliance with international shipping regulations, export requirements, and company policies across all transportation activities.
  • Model Tyson values and culture while fostering accountability, collaboration, engagement, and operational excellence.
  • Build strong relationships and trust with internal teams, customers, carriers, and external business partners.
  • Create organizational discipline and focus around talent development, leadership growth, succession planning, and team empowerment.
