About The Position

We are SLR Consulting (US), a 500+ coast-to-coast team of advisory, environmental/engineering, and regulatory professionals. We deliver environmental and sustainability services to our clients through the integration of over 30 advisory, technical environmental, and engineering disciplines to help clients address some of their most complex challenges around sustainability. We are Making Sustainability Happen. As our new senior-level Transportation Design Engineer, you will play an important role on a team whose work is essential to achieving this goal. In this role, you will work closely with our multi-disciplinary team of professionals and be a crucial leader in transportation engineering design. You will lead the technical preparation of construction plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) while helping grow our technical design capabilities in Smart City infrastructure, micro-mobility facilities, TDM integration, Safe/Complete Streets, and multi-modal corridors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related engineering field.
  • 10+ years of increasingly responsible professional experience in transportation infrastructure design.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification is required (ability to obtain reciprocity in target states if necessary).
  • High proficiency with industry-standard design software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation/InRoads/OpenRoads).
  • Familiarity with evolving best practices and design guidelines (AASHTO, NACTO, state DOT manuals) regarding smart cities, micro-mobility, and urban multi-modal design.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel by airplane and car, including overnight travel.
  • Detail-oriented, critical thinker, dedicated to quality work, with strong interpersonal, written, and graphic communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the preparation of detailed engineering designs, geometric layouts, cross-sections, drainage, and utilities for urban roadways, multi-modal corridors, and active transportation infrastructure.
  • Responsible for the final delivery of comprehensive PS&E (Plans, Specifications, and Estimates) packages in compliance with local, state, and federal standards.
  • Win work and identify future design opportunities; prepare technical approaches for proposals and respond to RFPs/RFQs.
  • Manage client relationships, maintain project schedules, and deliver complex design projects on-budget.
  • Work seamlessly across disciplines (environmental, regulatory, and advisory) to ensure sustainable and resilient design solutions.
  • Supervise, mentor, and perform quality control reviews for junior design engineers and CAD technicians.
  • Present complex engineering designs and visual concepts clearly to clients, stakeholders, and the public during outreach events.
