About The Position

Hanson Professional Services Inc. is seeking a candidate to fill a Transportation Drainage Engineer position in Jacksonville, Florida. This person is expected to perform roadway and / or drainage tasks on complex roadway projects, provide quality control and design review, and mentor junior staff. It is important that this position can support project teams from initial planning through design to construction. Projects will generally involve FDOT roadway design and planning projects. Other clients include local governments, state departments of transportation, toll authorities, and private clients. Experience on FDOT projects is highly desired.

Requirements

  • Experience with ORD Drainage and Utilities, Geopak Drainage, ASAD and similar hydraulic design software, required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or closely related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive roadway and drainage engineering experience with transportation projects.
  • Professional Engineer license (FL).
  • Familiarity with FDOT Guidance such as the Drainage Manual, Drainage Design Guide, Standard Plans, Florida Design Manual, Standard Specifications, etc.
  • Must be able to collaborate remotely with colleagues in other offices.
  • Candidate must be willing to accept out-of-town travel assignments.
  • Must be willing to work overtime to meet project demands when needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Microstation Connection Edition, Open Roads Designer (ORD) and FDOT Connect Workspace, highly desired.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D, desirable.
  • Experience with Hydrologic and Hydraulic modeling in ICPR4, HEC-HMS, SWMM and similar software, desirable.
  • Experience with 1D and 2D Bridge Hydraulic modeling using HEC-RAS, SRH or similar software, desirable.
  • Mentoring junior technical staff.
  • Collaborating with senior technical staff.
  • Strong technical writing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Roadway drainage design, including collection system design, cross drain hydraulics, gutter spread calculations, stormwater management design and analysis.
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies, prepare application documentation and apply for permits.
  • Perform PD&E Drainage, Pond Siting, Bridge and Location Hydraulics studies and prepare associated reports.
  • Responsible for design of permanent and temporary drainage (open and closed systems) on roadway projects.
  • Provide Hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, storm water detention/retention design, and erosion/sediment control plans.
  • Coordinate design of storm water facilities with other disciplines.
  • Provide utility coordination and permit development.
  • Prepare quantity calculations, cost estimates, and specifications final design phase.
  • Execute technical tasks and design teams (including responsibilities for technical teams, budget, and schedule) which may include quality control reviews.
  • Provide estimates of effort for technical tasks.
  • Author technical documents.
  • Provide construction observation as needed.
