About The Position

The Senior Transmission Lines Project Engineer position can be based in one of our Power Distribution teams located in our Ontario or Quebec offices. WSP is a leader in delivering clean energy solutions and in the electricity sector to meet the growing demand for safe, reliable, and sustainable energy for Canadians. This transition requires a major expansion of the electricity transmission network. In this high-level role, you will leverage WSP's recognized expertise, experience, and innovation to support our clients, utilities, and communities in this transformation towards a new energy future.

Requirements

  • University degree in Civil Engineering (B.Eng.), Mechanical Engineering (B.Eng.), or Electrical Engineering (B.Eng.) from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in transmission line design, including high and extra-high voltage overhead line design, route selection, line and structure siting, structure design and analysis, and preparation of construction tender documents.
  • Proficiency in PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS-Lite software.
  • Experience in project engineering or project management within multidisciplinary teams on complex projects.
  • Professional Engineer designation (P.Eng. / Ing.) required.
  • Knowledge of transmission line routing, field program planning, project management, EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) projects, and line construction.
  • Strong management and leadership skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, MFAD, and Microsoft Project is a significant asset.
  • Experience in distribution network or substation design is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical aspects of transmission line design projects (34.5 kV to 500 kV), including new lines, relocations, reconstructions, upgrades, structure replacements, and fiber optic additions.
  • Prepare and review design deliverables, including plans and profiles, material selection, and construction specifications.
  • Perform quality reviews of deliverables produced internally and by subcontractors.
  • Manage and prioritize multiple projects within budget and schedule.
  • Evaluate technical options, criteria, and alignments to optimize design.
  • Apply construction standards related to high-voltage lines.
  • Coordinate activities with contractors and subcontractors to ensure client satisfaction.
  • Act as the technical lead for projects and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Manage project reporting, billing, accounts receivable, and unbilled work.
  • Develop and monitor scope of work, schedules, and budgets in accordance with plans and contracts.
  • Ensure compliance with budget, schedule, and quality requirements.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the client and the project team, understanding client priorities.
  • Proactively identify challenges and implement solutions to drive project success.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to team members.
  • Travel as needed to client offices, construction sites, or supplier locations.
  • Support business development activities and participate in proposal preparation.
