Senior Transmission Lines Engineer, Power Delivery
About The Position

The Senior Transmission Lines Project Engineer position can be based in one of our Power Distribution teams located in our Ontario or Quebec offices. WSP is a leader in delivering clean energy solutions and in the electricity sector to meet the growing demand for safe, reliable, and sustainable energy for Canadians. This transition requires a major expansion of the electricity transmission network. Requirements
- University degree in Civil Engineering (B.Eng.), Mechanical Engineering (B.Eng.), or Electrical Engineering (B.Eng.) from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in transmission line design, including high and extra-high voltage overhead line design, route selection, line and structure siting, structure design and analysis, and preparation of construction tender documents.
- Proficiency in PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS-Lite software.
- Experience in project engineering or project management within multidisciplinary teams on complex projects.
- Professional Engineer designation (P.Eng. / Ing.) required.
- Knowledge of transmission line routing, field program planning, project management, EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) projects, and line construction.
- Strong management and leadership skills.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, MFAD, and Microsoft Project is a significant asset.
- Experience in distribution network or substation design is an asset.
Responsibilities
- Lead the technical aspects of transmission line design projects (34.5 kV to 500 kV), including new lines, relocations, reconstructions, upgrades, structure replacements, and fiber optic additions.
- Prepare and review design deliverables, including plans and profiles, material selection, and construction specifications.
- Perform quality reviews of deliverables produced internally and by subcontractors.
- Manage and prioritize multiple projects within budget and schedule.
- Evaluate technical options, criteria, and alignments to optimize design.
- Apply construction standards related to high-voltage lines.
- Coordinate activities with contractors and subcontractors to ensure client satisfaction.
- Act as the technical lead for projects and maintain strong client relationships.
- Manage project reporting, billing, accounts receivable, and unbilled work.
- Develop and monitor scope of work, schedules, and budgets in accordance with plans and contracts.
- Ensure compliance with budget, schedule, and quality requirements.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the client and the project team, understanding client priorities.
- Proactively identify challenges and implement solutions to drive project success.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to team members.
- Travel as needed to client offices, construction sites, or supplier locations.
- Support business development activities and participate in proposal preparation.
