About The Position

Welty Energy & Infrastructure (WE&I), an affiliate of Welty, is seeking a Senior Transmission Line Engineer/Estimator to join its Energy team. Welty Energy provides program and project management, transmission line and substation engineering, and construction oversight for electric utility projects ranging from 4kV to 765kV. The company is headquartered in Akron, Ohio, works nationally, and manages approximately $500 million in construction projects for utilities in the Midwest and Northeast. In this role, you will develop utility project estimates, serve as an extension of clients’ teams, and provide consulting on selected projects. You will also support the Welty Project Management Team and mentor junior estimators. The role focuses on conceptual estimating and project planning for transmission line projects, including lines from 25kV to 765kV. The position may be performed remotely from the mainland United States, with work conducted during Eastern Time hours.

Requirements

Ability to manage a high-volume workload and communicate effectively with internal and external clients.
Solid understanding of engineering design and drawing packages.
High school diploma or GED required.
At least 6 years of transmission line design or estimating experience in the electric utility industry.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a similar technical field.
Experience with Sage Estimating software, Navigator, OPPM (Primavera P6), Google Earth, or PLS-CADD.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
Ability to mine and analyze data.
Experience with transmission line design, construction, and/or testing.

Responsibilities

Produce conceptual new transmission routes in Google Earth KMZ files, including pole placements.
Create preliminary project schedules that account for lead times, crews, construction durations, siting, and related factors.
Write scopes of work for conceptual and pre-funding approval projects.
Create and review transmission lines.
Review and provide assistance with supplemental support estimates, including access roads, forestry, SCADA/IT networks, fiber, and real estate.
Coordinate with scoping and estimating team members, planning and protection engineering, project sponsors, regional contacts, and supplemental support estimate staff.
Attend regional meetings with planning, protection, and other stakeholders to review the status of open estimates.
Review, approve, and/or reject estimate requests in OPPM.
Build accurate project schedule timelines for transmission line and support estimates.
Consult on selected projects, assist the Welty Project Management Team, and mentor junior estimators.
