About The Position

The Senior Traffic & Transit Coordinator is responsible for leading the coordination and management of traffic staging, transit operations interfaces, and mobility planning activities associated with major rail transit infrastructure projects delivered by Trillium Rail Partners (TRP). Working within a complex urban construction environment, this role supports the safe and efficient movement of vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, and transit services while minimizing impacts from construction activities. The Senior Traffic & Transit Coordinator works closely with municipalities, transit agencies, contractors, and project teams to implement traffic management strategies and transit coordination plans in support of project delivery.

Requirements

  • Degree or diploma in Transportation Engineering, Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, Construction Management, or related discipline.
  • Significant experience managing vehicles, pedestrian, and transit traffic in construction zones, including major infrastructure or transit projects.
  • Strong familiarity with Ontario Traffic Manual (OTM) Book 7 and municipal traffic management requirements.
  • Experience coordinating with public transit agencies and municipal stakeholders.
  • Experience working in design‑build and/or P3 project environments.
  • Experience in urban environments including live‑traffic, public‑facing, or complex construction settings.
  • Strong coordination skills with proven planning and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage priorities in fast‑paced, high‑visibility project environments.
  • Strong understanding of traffic control plan development, traffic and transit operations, traffic staging, and public mobility considerations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning and coordination of Temporary Traffic and Transit Management Plans (TTMPs), Traffic Control Plans (TCPs), traffic staging, detours, lane / sidewalk closures, pedestrian routing, and transit service adjustments required to support construction activities.
  • Prepare, develop, and review comprehensive TCPs that align with OMT Book 7, municipal standards, project requirements, and AODA.
  • Coordinate with construction teams to integrate traffic and transit management requirements into sequencing plans, ensuring approved TCPs are implemented accurately and consistently in the field.
  • Monitor and assess real‑time impacts on road users, public transit operations, emergency access, and adjacent communities, implementing mitigation measures to maintain safety, mobility, and service reliability.
  • Act as a primary liaison with transit agencies regarding service impacts, detours, stop relocations, route modifications, and operational constraints.
  • Support planning and implementation of measures to maintain safe, reliable transit operations throughout construction.
  • Coordinate with transit stakeholders to address access requirements, service continuity, and operational performance considerations.
  • Liaise with municipalities, transportation authorities, emergency services, utility providers, and third‑party stakeholders regarding construction impacts traffic and transit operations.
  • Support coordination with authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), including the City of Toronto, City of Mississauga, Metrolinx, TTC, MiWay regional transportation agencies and other stakeholders
  • Participate in stakeholder meetings and contribute to communication strategies related to traffic and transit disruptions and management.
  • Conduct daily site inspections to verify traffic control setups, signage, pedestrian protections, and transit accommodations comply with approved plans and standards and maintain daily log.
  • Identify and resolve traffic‑related safety concerns, operational conflicts, and non‑conformances.
  • Ensure adherence to Ontario Traffic Manual (OTM) standards, AODA, municipal requirements, and PSOS.
  • Support the development and review of traffic and transit management plans, associated sub plans, traffic control plans, traffic staging drawings, transit impact assessments, traffic signal timing plans, travel demand management plans, and mobility management plans.
  • Maintain accurate records of permits, approvals, inspections, staging changes, and coordination activities.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and status updates related to traffic and transit management coordination.
  • Promote a strong safety culture focused on public safety, worker protection, and transit operational safety.
  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with vehicular traffic, pedestrian management, and transit operations interfaces.
  • Support incident response planning and coordination for traffic and transit‑related disruptions.
