Lochner, an Egis company, is recruiting for a Senior Traffic Engineer (PE) in Monterey Park, CA. This role requires 15+ years of traffic engineering design and operations experience. The Senior Traffic Engineer will serve as a staff specialist, applying advanced traffic engineering theories and principles. The candidate must be capable of analyzing technical aspects of traffic engineering, identifying issues, applying solutions, analyzing complex design problems, and recommending design changes. Responsibilities include reviewing construction plans, design calculations, specifications, and cost estimates for completeness, accuracy, constructability, and conformity to standards. The role requires technical expertise in traffic signal, signing & striping, and worksite traffic control design, with the ability to sign and stamp plans. Strong report writing skills are essential, as is responsibility for quality assurance and quality control. The position also involves preparing project reports and feasibility studies, working collaboratively with staff at all levels, and leading aspects of project pursuit teams, including proposal development and interviews.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.
  • 15+ years of traffic engineering design and operations experience.
  • Professional Traffic Engineering License in California required.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office suite, Synchro, and Bluebeam.
  • Advanced knowledge of relevant design standards and guidelines such as Caltrans Standard Plans & Specifications, Caltrans Highway Design Manual and associated Design Information Bulletins, California MUTCD, and various other local municipal design standards.
  • Ability to work with marketing team to support project pursuits, including the development of project proposals (written, presentations, interviews etc.).
  • Advanced level of technical writing and communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to build strong relationships.

Nice To Haves

  • Desirable Professional Civil Engineering License in California.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a staff specialist in the application of advanced traffic engineering theories, concepts, and principles for an assigned area of responsibility.
  • Analyze all technical aspects of traffic engineering, identify issues and apply suitable solutions.
  • Analyze complex design problems requiring the development of new or improved techniques or procedures, and recommend design changes.
  • Review construction plans, design calculations, specifications, cost estimates to ensure completeness, accuracy, constructability, and conformity to local standards or best engineering practices.
  • Act as a technical expert in traffic signal, signing & striping, and worksite traffic control design.
  • Sign and stamp plans.
  • Develop and review construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates for quality assurance and quality control.
  • Prepare project reports and feasibility studies.
  • Work with all staff levels as a team player.
  • Lead aspects of project pursuit teams and participate in the development of a project proposal and/or interview.
