About The Position

Houston Engineering, Inc. (HEI) is hiring a Senior Traffic Engineer in Maple Grove, Minnesota. The role designs safe and efficient transportation systems and works with state DOTs, counties, municipalities, and metropolitan planning organizations. The engineer contributes to business growth by identifying, pursuing, and supporting new business and project opportunities. The work includes traffic systems design, traffic operations and impact analysis, signal timing, and analysis of traffic and crash data to improve safety and traffic flow.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
At least 8 years of experience as a Traffic Engineer.
State Professional Engineer’s License.
Familiarity with MUTCD, AASHTO, HCM, IES, and other technical resources and guides.
Ability to work independently and as part of internal and external teams.
Strong critical-thinking skills.
Strong technical writing and communication skills.
Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with internal and external groups.
Authorization to work permanently in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

Engage with state DOTs, counties, municipalities, and metropolitan planning organizations.
Identify, pursue, and support new business and project opportunities.
Design traffic signal systems, lighting systems, fiber optics, traffic control, signing, and pavement markings.
Perform traffic operations analysis in support of transportation and traffic planning studies and designs.
Conduct traffic impact analysis studies to understand and improve traffic flow.
Optimize traffic signal timing to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion.
Analyze traffic and crash data and conduct intersection safety studies to improve road safety.
Work independently and collaboratively with internal and external teams.
