About The Position

The Senior Tooling Engineer leads the design, development, launch, optimization, and ongoing support of manufacturing tooling and related processes. This position coordinates with suppliers, vendors, project teams, and multiple engineering disciplines to ensure tooling and equipment are delivered on time, within budget, and in full compliance with specifications, BorgWarner build requirements, safety expectations, and applicable quality standards. The role independently resolves complex tooling and process issues; uses data-driven analysis to improve tool life, sharpening processes, quality, cost, and operational performance; maintains accurate tooling documentation and inventory controls; and provides technical direction, mentoring, and strategic support to engineers and assigned personnel.

Requirements

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Proficient with SAP/MRP system
  • GD&T
  • Ability to read tooling drawings
  • Engineering or Engineering Technology Degree from an accredited institution
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • 5+ years of professional engineering experience
  • Experience launching new equipment and tooling

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with suppliers and project teams to ensure equipment and tooling is delivered on time, meeting all specifications, within budget and built to BorgWarner standards.
  • Responsible for improvement of tools and processes.
  • Ensure tooling/equipment is consistent with BorgWarner build requirements.
  • Problem solve tooling and process issues.
  • Responsible for safety in process design and in execution of daily activities.
  • Ensure compliance of practices, procedures and instructions relative to applicable corporate standards (ISO, TS, IATF, etc).
  • Ensure quality outputs from daily activities.
  • Use of proper data collection and analysis to ensure provided information is supported with data that reinforces the stated output. (ie. tool life tracking)
  • Accurate documentation of work output, including storage of designs, spare parts, quotes and budgets.
  • Ensure timely execution of planned activities.
  • Provide process design and improvements in a cost-efficient manner.
  • Proficient in completing cost justifications with acceptable ROI.
  • Foster good working relationship and demonstrate effective communication skills with vendors, team members, suppliers and project teams.
  • Manage large projects and/or large volume of projects; provides strategic support.
  • Ability to oversee the work of other engineers; provide direction, feedback and mentoring.
  • Independently develop approaches to projects; supervision is in the form of general discussions about desired results.
  • Determine the technical objectives of assignments.
  • Demonstrate proven ability to apply advanced engineering principles.
  • Understand the impact of one’s decisions on other areas of the business; work broadly across the organization by interacting with multiple engineering disciplines.

  • Ensure perishable tools are on site to maintain function of the day-to-day business.
  • Maintain and create records detailing regrinds, sharpening records, and tooling geometries.
  • Spec out and choose tooling vendors based on delivery, cost, and design with ME input.
  • Troubleshoot, maintain, and verify sharpening process day to day.
  • Be able to create new sharpening programs and revamp existing programs if deemed necessary.
