About The Position

The Senior Thermal Design Engineer uses machine-design and analytical skills to conceptualize, develop, and verify mechanical designs, including structures, kinematics, robotic actuation, and sensing solutions. The role owns key system components and works with suppliers and manufacturing to build high-quality prototypes and transition designs into products. The engineer works in a focused, high-energy, collaborative research and development environment and makes sound decisions amid time pressure and ambiguous or incomplete information. The position involves system thermal design, analysis, and testing; developing and iterating full-scale prototypes; creating requirements and design documentation for a regulatory-controlled environment; and supporting verification, validation, troubleshooting, and product delivery. It also includes collaborating with vendors, suppliers, and manufacturing, and providing technical guidance and mentorship to other engineers.

Requirements

  • Experience with or ownership of product-development lifecycle phases, including design, analysis, debug, verification, transfer to manufacturing, and sustainment.
  • Background in thermal system architecture, design, and analysis, including associated simulation environments.
  • Technical expertise in one or more of mechanism design, servo motors, brakes, encoders, harmonic drives and alternatives, sensors, or robotics.
  • Ability to perform analyses potentially including statics, dynamics, kinematics, stress, fatigue, and reliability.
  • Ability to design, analyze, and document components, structures, and mechanical assemblies in SolidWorks or similar CAD software.
  • Strong understanding of component or material selection criteria and design for reliability and manufacturability.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of a wide variety of component manufacturing processes.
  • Proficiency in GD&T and tolerance stack analysis.
  • Strong hands-on prototyping skills, such as 3D printing and machine-shop equipment.
  • Ability to design and execute experiments on strength or function.
  • Ability to use MATLAB to create or modify test scripts and system software.
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn and quickly analyze difficult technical problems, thinking creatively and fundamentally about solutions.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Self-driven, with the ability to excel in a high-energy, focused team environment and maintain a strong sense of shared responsibility.
  • Ability to lead and mentor other engineers.
  • Minimum BSME.
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience.

Nice To Haves
