About The Position

The Senior Thermal Engineer will possess a solid understanding of heat-transfer and thermal analysis & testing fundamentals. This role involves creating Flotherm thermal models based on Design Engineer’s Solidworks assemblies, determining the appropriate level of detail for accurate thermal simulation results, and performing Flotherm thermal simulations to identify assembly hot-spot locations and internal component thermal margins. The engineer will analyze thermal gradients and reliability margins within semiconductor and optical packages, and conduct lab testing with prototype and production hardware to validate thermal simulations. Responsibilities also include exporting Flotherm models for customer use, supporting customer inquiries regarding thermal performance, reviewing production data for temperature reporting accuracy, and analyzing/proposing advanced heat-dissipation materials and methods. Additionally, the role requires 3D modeling using Solidworks, interfacing with Electrical Engineers, attending design reviews, and providing feedback for product improvement.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree (minimum) with a major in Mechanical Engineering or general Engineering/Science.
  • 5yrs minimum experience in thermal design/analysis or related field
  • Must be a highly motivated self-starter with good communication skills that can excel in a fast-paced high-tech environment
  • Must be proficient with Siemens Flotherm (XT and/or standard)
  • Thermal analysis (hand calculations and computer simulation) knowledge required
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Should be well versed with hands-on assembly and disassembly of mechanical assemblies
  • Solid understanding on the safe use of basic hand tools and machine shop equipment
  • Must be able to work both independently, as well as part of a team
  • Regular use of a computer and other office equipment is necessary
  • Interaction with team members and external contacts is a regular part of the job
  • Sitting for extended periods while working on a computer or conducting meetings.
  • Use of hands and fingers for typing, writing, and handling documents.
  • Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing.
  • Mobility within the office environment to attend meetings or interact with colleagues.
  • All employees are required to follow the site EHS procedures and Coherent Corp. Corporate EHS standards.
