About The Position

The Senior Technician, Facility Services, HVAC/Refrigeration, is responsible for overseeing the installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC and refrigeration systems across commercial and industrial facilities. This role leads diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and compliance with safety and environmental standards while managing field teams and vendor relationships. The position requires coordinating service priorities, delivering technical training, and supporting business-critical operations, including on-call duties. The Senior Technician contributes to process improvements and workforce development, ensuring optimal system performance and adherence to regulatory requirements in a dynamic, safety-focused environment. The Facility Services HVAC/Refrigeration team ensures the reliable operation and maintenance of Walmart’s facilities through expert preventive care, repairs, and safety compliance. They apply specialized skills in HVAC systems, electrical diagnostics, and equipment upkeep to support business priorities efficiently. The team collaborates closely with management and service providers, maintaining clear communication and integrity. Requirements

  • Proven experience in installation, commissioning, and maintenance of HVAC/R systems, including refrigeration units and ductwork.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant-related issues in commercial and industrial settings.
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards, EPA refrigerant handling protocols, and compliance with federal, state, and local HVAC/R codes.
  • Ability to lead and mentor field teams, providing hands-on training and technical guidance.
  • Proficiency in managing preventive maintenance programs and maintaining detailed work documentation.
  • Effective coordination of service calls, parts inventory, and vendor relationships to meet operational priorities.
  • Commitment to safety, integrity, and continuous improvement in a dynamic work environment.
  • 3 years’ experience in HVAC/grocery rack refrigeration.
  • Option 2: 6 years’ experience in HVAC/grocery rack refrigeration and Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration.
  • Hold and maintain Type I and Type II or Universal Environmental Protection Agency certification for refrigerant handling.
  • Where required, HVAC-R/ Mechanical Journeyman.
  • 1 year’s experience in plumbing, electrical, material handling equipment, or related area or 2 years’ Walmart store experience.
  • Valid state-issued driver’s license and ability to pass a motor vehicle report.
  • Commercial driving record with no convictions for DUI, DWI, OUI within the last five (5) years.
  • Commercial driving record with no more than two (2) moving violations in the last three (3) years.
  • No preventable accidents while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years.
  • No serious traffic violations, as defined by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a 2-year technical/vocational HVAC/R program or 2-year associate’s of applied science A/C and refrigeration.
  • Experience using word processing, spreadsheet, email, and presentation software (for example, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Prior work experience reading blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Prior work experience using hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.
  • Prior work experience with Glycol and C02 systems.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee installation, commissioning, and maintenance of HVAC/R systems, including ductwork, control panels, and refrigeration units.
  • Lead diagnostics and troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant issues across commercial and industrial equipment.
  • Implement and monitor preventive maintenance programs to optimize equipment performance and reduce downtime.
  • Manage refrigerant handling, ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, and HVAC/R codes.
  • Coordinate and mentor field teams, providing hands-on training and evaluating skill development.
  • Maintain parts inventory, vendor relationships, and service schedules to meet business priorities.
  • Support on-call rotations and respond promptly to critical service needs.
