About The Position

The Sr. Technician, Chemistry provides hands on laboratory support for research and development projects in coating formulation and materials characterization within the Organic Materials Directorate. This role supports innovation across Corning’s businesses by executing experiments, preparing samples and formulations, operating laboratory equipment, collecting data, and maintaining safe, organized, and efficient lab operations. The position works closely with scientists to support multiple projects with a high degree of accuracy, flexibility, and attention to detail.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related scientific discipline
  • Strong hands on laboratory skills and technical aptitude
  • Experience handling chemicals and working safely in a laboratory environment
  • Familiarity with standard laboratory equipment and instrumentation
  • Basic understanding of organic and polymer chemistry
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data quality
  • Ability to follow experimental procedures accurately and consistently
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple assignments
  • Ability to work independently while supporting a collaborative research team
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Reliable, self motivated, and detail oriented
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing priorities and project needs
  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability for laboratory work

Nice To Haves

  • 2 or more years of industrial, research, or laboratory experience
  • Experience with coatings, adhesives, or formulation development
  • Experience with laboratory equipment maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting
  • Experience working in a fast paced R and D environment
  • Ability to support occasional overtime as needed to meet project demands

Responsibilities

  • Execute laboratory experiments under the guidance of scientists to support project objectives
  • Prepare formulations, coatings, chemical solutions, and testing specimens following established procedures
  • Collect, organize, and maintain accurate experimental data and laboratory records
  • Operate laboratory equipment and support testing and sample preparation activities with a high degree of care and accuracy
  • Perform preventative maintenance, calibration, and basic troubleshooting of laboratory equipment
  • Maintain laboratory organization, consumables, chemical stocks, and inventory needed to support daily operations
  • Support safe laboratory operations through compliance with environmental, health, and safety requirements
  • Manage multiple experimental activities and prioritize work to meet project timelines
  • Partner effectively with scientists and other team members to support changing project needs in a fast paced R and D environment
