About The Position
The Senior Technical Project Manager plays a critical role in leading and overseeing the successful execution of large-scale, complex software development projects. This position extends beyond standard Agile project management responsibilities, requiring strategic vision, technical expertise, and leadership in optimizing processes, client management, mitigating risks, and ensuring project success. As a key member of the project’s leadership team, the Senior Technical Project Manager is responsible for aligning project outcomes with business objectives, fostering a high-performance culture, and driving continuous improvement within Troy Web Consulting. The Senior Technical Project Manager will be expected to participate in activities beyond those of a standard Project Manager. Responsibilities extend to executive-level decision-making, strategic planning, process optimization, client management, and technical leadership. You are expected to align with our core values at all times and foster a high level of professionalism and accountability across the team. What’s the difference between a technical project manager and a project manager? The Senior Technical Project Manager not only manages timelines, budgets, and teams like a project manager (PM) but also has a strong technical background, allowing them to deeply understand the software development process, assess technical risks, and communicate effectively with engineers. A project manager focuses more on coordination, stakeholder communication, and ensuring the project meets business goals, often relying on technical leads for detailed technical guidance. We would ideally like someone willing to work hybrid onsite at our Cohoes, NY office, but we are willing to consider EST-based US-based remote workers who are able to visit our office with some frequency.
Requirements
- 6-8+ years of experience managing large-scale software development projects with cross-functional teams.
- Strong technical background and understanding of software development processes, tools, and frameworks.
- Expertise in Agile, Scrum, and hybrid project management approaches.
- Proven ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
- Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient with project management tools such as DevOps, GitHub Projects, Jira, Confluence, Microsoft Project, or similar.
Nice To Haves
- PMP, CSM, or other relevant certifications are a plus.
Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end planning, execution, and delivery of software development projects, ensuring alignment with business goals and technical feasibility.
- Manage expectations and provide regular status updates to leadership and clients, ensuring transparency and accountability.
- Define project scope, objectives, timelines, and deliverables in collaboration with stakeholders and technical teams.
- Drive Agile, Scrum, or other project management methodologies to ensure iterative development and continuous improvement.
- Provide strategic direction and oversight for large, mission-critical software projects.
- Collaborate with company leadership to refine project management processes and execution strategies.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a senior-level advisor.
- Anticipate and mitigate risks, proactively addressing challenges before they escalate.
- Ensure compliance with industry best practices, budget/timeline, and contractual obligations.
- Serve as an escalation point for project roadblocks, providing guidance and resolution strategies.
- Promote continuous learning and professional development within the project management team, fostering a culture of accountability and excellence
- Act as the primary liaison for executive-level client communications, ensuring transparency and alignment.
- Manage and negotiate project scope, contracts, and change orders to balance client needs and business objectives.
- Drive stakeholder engagement and ensure satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle.
- Collaborate with Sales, Finance, and HR to support company-wide initiatives.
- Assist with resource planning, invoicing, and project financial management.
- Participate in company thought leadership initiatives, including presentations and industry discussions.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Perform and facilitate requirements gathering, modeling and documentation activities using contemporary agile methods, techniques & models.
- Assist and mentor other team members where appropriate.
