About The Position

We are seeking a Senior Technical Product Manager to join our Product Management team in Phoenix, AZ. This role owns the Adams Rite brand — a technically complex, application-diverse hardware portfolio spanning exit devices, trim, latches, electrified hardware, and motorized retraction products for aluminum storefront and specialty door applications. Unlike distribution-led brands where channel education drives sales, Adams Rite demands a product leader who can engage directly with customers as a technical authority — diagnosing application requirements, navigating high-variability door and frame configurations, and engineering precise hardware solutions in partnership with the customer. In this role you will combine that hands-on technical credibility with full brand ownership — setting the long-term product vision, driving the development roadmap, and leading commercialization in collaboration with Engineering, Operations, Sales, Marketing, and Training. The ideal candidate brings deep architectural hardware knowledge, strong analytical instincts, and the strategic mindset to grow a complex, specialty brand over the long term. The Senior Technical Product Manager role sits at the intersection of deep product expertise and brand-level strategic ownership. The right candidate is someone who can earn the trust of the most technically demanding customers while simultaneously shaping the long-term direction of one of our most complex brands.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) from a four-year college or university preferred; technical degree or MBA is a plus.
  • Five (5) or more years of product management experience in a technical hardware field; direct experience with architectural hardware, door and frame products, or aluminum storefront applications strongly preferred.
  • Deep technical aptitude with the ability to rapidly internalize complex product families, application variables, and specification environments — and translate that knowledge into customer solutions and product strategy.
  • Tenacious, passionate, and customer-obsessed; comfortable operating in high-variability application environments where no two customer problems are exactly alike.
  • Proven ability to serve as a credible technical resource for sophisticated external stakeholders — including architects, specifiers, integrators, glaziers, and installers — while simultaneously driving internal brand strategy.
  • Proven ability to influence and lead cross-functional teams without formal authority, with a demonstrated track record of building alignment across Engineering, Sales, Marketing, and Operations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to develop and present well-structured business cases, technical recommendations, and strategic proposals to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong understanding of business fundamentals — including product costing, gross margin, contribution margin, and product life cycles — with the ability to apply that knowledge to roadmap prioritization and investment decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize quantitative sales data with qualitative market and field feedback to identify actionable trends and inform brand strategy.
  • Natural mentor and collaborator who takes an active interest in the growth and development of peers and junior team members.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations in English.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals in English.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to professionally and confidently present company materials, financials, training materials, product programs, etc, to group management, peers, sales reps, and customers, in person, on video, over the phone and/or webinars, trade shows, and the like.
  • Demonstrate a strong working knowledge of IT systems and software, including risks associated with cybersecurity.
  • Proficiency in presentation visualization, reporting tools, spreadsheets and database software; possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Power Point, Word, Power BI, Teams.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills; pleasant demeanor and speaking voice when dealing with the public and fellow employees; extremely accurate in data entry; strong attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical degree or MBA is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Oracle, Roadmunk, Miro, Smartsheets or CRM software programs a plus.
  • Cybersecurity certifications preferred but not required; CompTIA Security+, CISSP or CISM

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the organization's foremost technical authority on the Adams Rite brand, maintaining command of the full product family — exit devices, trim, latches, electrified hardware, and motorized retraction — and the application variables that govern correct product selection across aluminum storefront and specialty door configurations.
  • Partner directly with customers, channel partners, architects, and specifiers to navigate complex application scenarios, diagnose hardware requirements, and deliver precise product solutions — functioning as a trusted technical advisor throughout the specification and selection process.
  • Own the full product lifecycle for the Adams Rite brand — from new product development and successful market introduction through end-of-life rationalization and discontinuation.
  • Develop and set the brand development roadmap, building cross-functional consensus around priorities and sequencing. Translate brand strategy and customer-derived technical insights into clear, actionable development plans.
  • Conduct ongoing competitive analysis and Voice of Customer (VOC) research to identify portfolio gaps, unmet application needs, and emerging market opportunities. Synthesize findings into strategic recommendations backed by data.
  • Develop market requirement documents, product proposals, and financial business cases for new product development initiatives — including estimated ROI, product-market fit assessment, and go-to-market strategy.
  • Maintain a deep, data-driven understanding of the brand's customer base, product sales velocity, and performance trends — combining hard sales data with field and application feedback to surface actionable insights.
  • Perform regular product category performance analyses, including pricing reviews, competitive comparisons, gap analyses, and end-of-life assessments.
  • Develop and deliver technically rigorous training modules and enablement content for the salesforce and external partners, with emphasis on application guidance, product selection logic, and technical positioning across complex door configurations.
  • Lead commercialization activities for new and existing products in collaboration with Sales, Marketing, and the Training team.
  • Regularly attend relevant trade shows, industry conferences, and customer-facing events to gather market intelligence, support customers, and represent the brand externally.
  • Provide mentorship, coaching, and day-to-day guidance to Associate Product Managers and Product Managers — helping them navigate roadblocks, develop their skills, and grow toward greater ownership and responsibility.
  • Maintain a current working knowledge of industry trends, code and compliance requirements, and the competitive landscape for the Adams Rite brand.
  • Conform with the organization's ISO 9001 & 14001 requirements.
  • Travel required, up to two weeks per month.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Benefits

  • Regular feedback, training, and development opportunities.
