Senior Technical Product Manager | Developer Tooling - Capital One Travel

Capital One•McLean, VA
•$219,000 - $249,900

About The Position

Capital One is seeking a Senior Technical Product Manager to own the technical roadmap for the Capital One Travel Core Platform Team, which builds the foundational tooling used across Travel experiences. This is a deeply technical, builder-minded product leadership role for someone with experience shipping software end-to-end who can manage stakeholders and influence partner roadmaps toward shared goals. The Platform Team centralizes the shared component library used across six Travel funnels; enables AI-driven front-end development through design-to-code mapping, component metadata, and CI guardrails; modernizes testing, deployment, release, and observability; and improves the platform experience for teams building on it. The product manager will bring these workstreams together into a coherent, sequenced program with measurable outcomes. The role partners with engineering leadership, design, funnel teams, and agency teams. It translates technical priorities into a roadmap and operating cadence, runs quarterly stakeholder reviews, owns the platform placemat, and communicates credibly in both architecture reviews and executive discussions. The role calls for fluency with modern engineering practices and hands-on use of AI-assisted development tools to prototype and validate technical concepts. The position requires a qualifying degree by the scheduled start date, or a bachelor's degree in any field plus at least four years of Product Management experience. Capital One will not sponsor new employment authorization or provide immigration-related support. The position is eligible for performance-based incentive compensation. The full-time annual salary range is $200,700–$229,100 in McLean, Virginia, and $219,000–$249,900 in New York, New York; location-specific ranges apply elsewhere. Benefits are described as comprehensive and competitive, with eligibility varying by employment status and management level.

Requirements

  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, by the scheduled start date a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a quantitative field, Business, or Marketing; alternatively, a bachelor’s degree in any field and at least four years of Product Management experience.
  • Deep technical credibility with engineering partners and comfort participating in architectural discussions and evaluating technical tradeoffs.
  • Fluency in modern front-end platforms, design systems, CI/CD, and observability.
  • Hands-on experience using AI-powered development tools such as Claude Code, Claude Cowork, Stitch by Google, or similar platforms to prototype and validate ideas; comfort working with autonomous AI workflows.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain priorities, strategies, and tradeoffs to engineers and executives.
  • Ability to influence partner teams toward long-term platform adoption.
  • Ability to work with ambiguity and limited information, take initiative, frame problems, and iterate toward clarity.
  • Strong problem-solving skills in complex, multi-stakeholder, multi-team environments.
  • Customer-first approach that understands platform engineers’ and consuming teams’ pain points and reflects them in roadmap decisions.
  • Excellent collaboration across engineering, design, data, and product, with a community-minded approach.
  • Ability to deliver business results by prioritizing key inputs, delivering quality work in a timely manner, and making technical-roadmap tradeoffs for long-term business and customer value.
  • Ability to find simple, elegant solutions to complex technical and organizational challenges and avoid over-engineering.
  • Design and UX sensibility, including the ability to wireframe and reason confidently about user experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience translating business strategy and analysis into consumer-facing digital products.

Responsibilities

  • Own the Platform Team’s technical roadmap from discovery through delivery, sequencing component-library, AI enablement, deployment and observability, and developer-experience workstreams.
  • Drive centralization of the shared component library, including tokens, primitives, wrapped components, Storybook, and Figma integration, and lead migration of all Travel funnels onto it.
  • Lead AI-driven development enablement through design-to-code mapping, component metadata for AI grounding, and ESLint/CI guardrails to prevent shadow components.
  • Modernize deployment, testing, and observability, including test strategy and coverage compliance, regression-test automation, feature-flag and A/B automation, and proactive monitoring such as RUM, crash detection, and session replay.
  • Prototype and validate technical concepts using AI tools such as Claude Code, Claude Cowork, Stitch by Google, or equivalent AI-assisted development environments, and help shape autonomous and semi-autonomous AI workflows.
  • Participate in architecture reviews and design-system working sessions, reasoning about technical tradeoffs, dependencies, and sequencing.
  • Run the operating cadence, including quarterly stakeholder reviews, the platform placemat, onboarding kits and migration guides for each tool, and developer-experience surveys with follow-through.
  • Translate an ambiguous mandate into clear technical requirements and a defensible sequence, working with limited information and iterating as understanding develops.
  • Champion platform engineers and consuming teams, treating developer satisfaction and adoption as first-class outcomes.
  • Communicate priorities, strategies, and tradeoffs clearly to engineering teams and executives; influence partner teams toward long-term platform adoption.
  • Collaborate across engineering, design, data, and product, and make roadmap tradeoffs that optimize long-term business and customer value.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive, competitive, and inclusive health, financial, and other benefits supporting total well-being.
  • Eligibility for performance-based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonuses and/or long-term incentives.
