About The Position

The Senior Technical Product Manager — API and AI Enablement leads the strategy, development, delivery, and adoption of customer-facing and internal APIs, AI-enabled capabilities, and related platform integrations. This role connects business strategy, customer needs, and technical execution. The successful candidate will translate ambiguous opportunities into clear, secure, developer-ready plans; lead cross-functional delivery teams; and ensure solutions progress from discovery through production adoption and measurable outcomes. This is a hands-on, player-coach role. The immediate emphasis is technical product delivery: leading a cross-functional development pod whose members may or may not report directly to this position. As the team scales, the role is expected to expand into direct people leadership — beginning with a technical project manager and potentially software engineers — so the successful candidate must be senior enough to hire, develop, and manage technical staff when that time comes. The ideal candidate combines strong product and program leadership with enough technical depth to collaborate directly with software engineers, architects, security teams, operations, customers, and external partners, and is comfortable communicating clearly from engineering working sessions through executive reviews.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in engineering, computer science, product management, business, or a related technical field
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of relevant experience, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Demonstrated success leading API, integration, platform, developer-experience, or enterprise software initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of the API lifecycle, including contracts, versioning, compatibility, documentation, testing, load and performance validation, observability, security, and deprecation.
  • Working knowledge of identity, authentication, and authorization concepts, including SSO, MFA, OAuth, OpenID Connect, role-based access, customer entitlements, token management, and service identities.
  • Practical understanding of modern AI product-development processes, including use-case selection, prototyping, evaluation, human oversight, security review, observability, cost and performance management, and production monitoring.
  • Comfortable using AI assistants and agentic tools as part of everyday research, requirements development, analysis, prototyping, testing, and delivery work, and able to help teams adopt AI responsibly by establishing repeatable workflows, quality controls, evaluation criteria, and clear human accountability.
  • Sufficient technical fluency to review architecture, API specifications, logs, service behavior, testing evidence, and technical tradeoffs with engineers.
  • Experience converting business needs into complete requirements, acceptance criteria, delivery plans, and measurable outcomes.
  • Proven ability to lead software engineers, technical specialists, vendors, and cross-functional partners through influence rather than reporting authority, and to build trusted relationships across product, engineering, security, architecture, operations, sales, support, and leadership.
  • People-leadership experience gained through direct management, mentorship, or leading delivery teams, with the seniority and readiness to take on direct reports as the team grows; prior direct people management is a plus, not a requirement.
  • Strong understanding of secure software delivery, privacy, data governance, operational readiness, and enterprise risk management.
  • Outstanding organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to balance strategic programs, production needs, technical debt, and immediate customer demands.
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to support recommendations with customer evidence, operational data, financial impact, or clearly defined business value.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical subjects to non-technical audiences and present decisions, progress, risks, and recommendations to executives, with strong writing and storytelling skills spanning technical requirements, executive updates, roadmaps, customer documentation, and decision records.

Nice To Haves

  • Telecommunications, digital commerce, quoting, ordering, billing, service-management, or customer-portal experience.
  • Experience delivering AI or API capabilities in a highly available, regulated, security-sensitive, or large-enterprise environment.

Responsibilities

  • Own the vision, roadmap, priorities, and delivery plan for API and AI-enabled capabilities that improve customer experience, employee productivity, operational efficiency, and business scalability.
  • Guide customer-facing, partner, and internal API capabilities through discovery, design, implementation, documentation, onboarding, adoption, and ongoing lifecycle management.
  • Identify valuable AI opportunities and establish disciplined delivery practices that include evaluation criteria, testing, safeguards, human review, production monitoring, and measurable outcomes.
  • Ensure authentication, authorization, entitlement, privacy, and security requirements are identified early and incorporated into customer and internal experiences.
  • Ensure engineers understand the business outcome, user need, system context, dependencies, acceptance criteria, and definition of done before implementation begins.
  • Maintain a cohesive implementation plan in which priorities, justification, dependencies, ownership, delivery forecasts, and risks remain visible and current.
  • Produce clear business requirements, technical requirements, process models, API documentation, decision records, and executive-ready summaries.
  • Coordinate testing, UAT, security review, support readiness, communications, rollout, adoption measurement, and post-release follow-up.
  • Work with customers, sales, support, and external partners to understand integration needs, improve onboarding, and provide accurate technical guidance.
  • Provide concise, current reporting on progress, outcomes, decisions, risks, dependencies, resource needs, and recommended actions, and align business, product, engineering, architecture, security, infrastructure, operations, and support teams around shared outcomes.
  • Identify and address manual work, fragmented integrations, unclear ownership, unreliable handoffs, and recurring support issues, and help the organization adopt new APIs, AI-enabled processes, and ways of working through clear communication, training, feedback, and measurable adoption.
  • Measure success through adoption, reliability, customer and employee experience, delivery speed, reduced manual effort, and realized business value.
  • Lead a cross-functional development pod through shared purpose, clear ownership, structured decisions, regular delivery rhythms, and direct resolution of blockers.
  • Mentor and develop members of the delivery pod, and as the team scales, assume direct people-management responsibilities — hiring, coaching, performance development, and career growth — beginning with a technical project manager and potentially software engineers.
