About The Position

The translational genomics laboratory within the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute is seeking an experienced Senior Technical Officer to deliver specialist expertise supporting next-generation sequencing (NGS) workflows. The position involves planning, executing and optimising library preparation for targeted genomic and epigenetic assays using FFPE, fresh/frozen tissue and liquid biopsy samples. A key focus is maintaining efficient, high-throughput operations while ensuring rigorous quality control standards across all workflows. Working closely with the Principal Investigator, research collaborators and laboratory teams, the Senior Technical Officer provides technical guidance, training and support in NGS methodologies and equipment use. The role contributes to protocol development and optimisation for challenging specimens, including troubleshooting and assay refinement, while ensuring compliance with laboratory standards and safety requirements. It also supports operational continuity through equipment maintenance, inventory management and accurate workflow documentation. This role requires the development and maintenance of standard operating procedures and quality control frameworks across the sequencing pipeline, including nucleic acid quantification and library validation processes.

Requirements

  • A strong foundation in molecular biology or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in NGS library construction using Illumina-compatible technologies.
  • Knowledge of sequencing chemistry, multiplexing strategies and quality control instrumentation.
  • Experience in liquid biopsy, FFPE optimisation or epigenetic library preparation.
  • Ability to demonstrate present valid and current Australian work rights.
