About The Position

Bowhead is seeking a Senior Technical Editor for an upcoming effort in McLean, VA. This effort establishes and implements policy, budget, program management, and administrative mechanisms to support nationwide research, development, and technology program. This effort also develops and executes a comprehensive RD&T communications and marketing strategy to promote research and technology initiatives. The senior level editor oversees the entire editorial process for high-stakes technical documentation, ensuring stylistic consistency across large-scale programs and mentoring junior staff.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree (Senior) in English, Journalism, or a technical field.
• 10+ years of experience with supervisory and project management experience.
• Expert-level command of the GPO Style Manual.
• Experience with Chicago Manual of Style.
• Experience with FHWA Communication Reference Guide (CRG) compliance.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 to 25 pounds.
• Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time.
• Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically.
• Must be able to obtain a clearance at the Public Trust level.
• US Citizenship is a requirement for a Public Trust clearance at this location.

Nice To Haves

• Transportation experience, especially in highway and surface transportation is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute comprehensive outreach strategies and promotional campaigns.
• Manage multiple, complex projects simultaneously.
• Transform raw data and engineering jargon into authoritative documents that meet the stringent requirements of the agency, including reference checking, fact checking, and ensuring copyright compliance.
• Substantively edit, verify technical accuracy, and ensure compliance with agency style guides for all documents, reports, and manuals.
• Manage the full lifecycle of a document from outline to final publication including online and web publishing.
• Perform Section 508 review responsibilities, document version control and multi-level review coordination.
• Coordinate with authors through the publication lifecycle.
