Senior Technical Business Analyst

Mastery Logistics SystemsMinneapolis, MN

About The Position

Mastery is the cloud-based TMS built for everyone who moves freight — shippers, carriers, private fleets, and brokerages — all operating in one platform. The systems they connect to are anything but simple: APIs, EDI feeds, third-party vendors, and event-driven data streams all have to work together reliably, every day. As our Senior Technical Business Systems Analyst, you'll own the technical depth of that integration work. You'll lead discovery and solution design with clients, troubleshoot complex system behavior, and bridge the space between what Engineering builds and what customers actually need. This is a hands-on role — you'll be reading logs, tracing service interactions, challenging architectural assumptions, and producing artifacts that reflect how systems behave in the real world, not just on a whiteboard.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience with APIs, EDI, and event-driven architecture (Kafka or similar)
  • Working knowledge of JSON, REST, OAuth 2.0, GraphQL, and SQL
  • Practical experience in microservices environments — you understand race conditions, latency, and data consistency challenges from having debugged them
  • Proficiency with observability and debugging tools (e.g., New Relic) and cloud/container environments (e.g., Azure)
  • Ability to read logs, trace service interactions, and investigate system behavior independently
  • Background in transportation, supply chain, or TMS environments — you understand the domain's integration complexity, not just the technology
  • 5+ years in a technical BA, systems analyst, or implementation engineering role
  • Track record of working directly with clients on complex, multi-system implementations
  • Ability to shift fluently between strategic design and operational detail without losing either
  • Strong communicator — equally clear in an engineering standup and a client executive briefing

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end integration solutioning across API, EDI, and event-driven architectures — from requirements through go-live and stabilization
  • Design cohesive integration strategies that reconcile client systems, Mastery's platform, and third-party vendors into a single, scalable approach
  • Drive proof-of-concept and validation efforts early, surfacing edge cases (race conditions, data inconsistencies, latency issues) before they reach production
  • Build and maintain architectural artifacts — system diagrams, data flow maps, integration patterns — that reflect real system behavior
  • Lead deep technical discovery with clients, synthesizing their requirements, existing architectures, and third-party constraints into a clear integration path
  • Translate complex system behavior into plain-language narratives that both technical and non-technical stakeholders can act on
  • Guide clients through technical decisions — trade-offs, root causes, and recommended paths — with the credibility of someone who has done the investigation themselves
  • Own continuity across the implementation lifecycle, ensuring nothing falls through the gap between design, engineering, and client outcome
  • Act as the connective tissue across Product, Solutions, and Implementations — keeping design intent, technical execution, and client expectations aligned
  • Independently validate and challenge assumptions across Engineering, Product, and external partners to ensure solutions are sound before they're built
  • Build repeatable knowledge by documenting integration patterns, failure modes, and debugging approaches so the team gets faster with every implementation
