About The Position

Wiggam Law is seeking a Senior Tax Attorney to join their team as a Force Multiplier. This role is designed for a mentor and builder who will own the strategy for a dedicated "Pod" of 2-4 professionals. Success in this role is measured by both client results and the growth of the team led. The firm emphasizes a work-life balance with a 1,500 annual billable hour requirement, allowing attorneys to be present for family milestones. This position offers a path to leadership, process refinement, and mentorship, moving away from the "individual contributor" burnout.

Requirements

  • Must possess an active Bar License and J.D.
  • 5+ years of dedicated experience in tax controversy (IRS and/or State levels).
  • Proven experience leading a team, managing direct reports, or overseeing the production of other professionals.
  • Deep knowledge of IRS collections (OICs, IAs, CNC), audits, appeals, and penalty abatement procedures.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to translate complex tax law into an actionable strategy for both clients and junior staff.
  • Experience with legal practice management software (e.g., Clio), Adobe, and the MS Office Suite.

Responsibilities

  • Own the strategy for a dedicated "Pod" of 2-4 professionals.
  • Lead your pod to meet or exceed key performance indicators (KPIs), specifically focusing on realization rates and billable hour targets.
  • Provide consistent, hands-on coaching to associate attorneys and EAs; conduct regular file reviews and provide documented feedback to elevate the team’s technical skills.
  • Manage the team’s case capacity, ensuring deadlines are met and resources are allocated efficiently across the pod’s portfolio.
  • Participate in the hiring, onboarding, and performance management of your direct reports.
  • Serve as the lead strategist on a portfolio of complex federal and state tax controversy matters, including high-stakes audits, appeals, collections, and offshore compliance.
  • Review and sign off on major filings, protests, and settlement proposals drafted by your team to ensure technical accuracy and strategic alignment.
  • Lead complex negotiations with the IRS and state revenue agencies for the firm’s most sensitive or high-value cases.
  • Lead Tax Court litigation and strategy.
  • Serve as the primary client liaison for your pod, building strong relationships, ensuring service expectations are consistently met, and stepping in to resolve concerns.

Benefits

  • Competitive 1,500 annual billable hour requirement
  • Opportunity for leadership and career advancement
  • Work-life balance focus
