About The Position

ShiftKey is seeking a hands-on, self-directed Senior Tax and GL Accountant to serve as their internal tax expert. The role will focus on managing tax compliance, owning the annual tax provisioning process, and quality-assuring outsourced partners. During non-peak tax seasons, the accountant will collaborate with the accounting team on general ledger operations. This position offers a stable role with a good work-life balance and exposure to multiple accounting areas.

Requirements

4-6 years of experience, ideally starting in public accounting.
Direct experience with tax compliance and tax provisioning (ASC 740 is a must).
A willingness to tackle general ledger work and familiarity with general accounting principles.
A self-starter mentality. You need to be comfortable working independently, managing your own deadlines, and context-switching between tax and GL tasks.

Nice To Haves

Candidates from mid-sized or local accounting firms who have handled diverse clients and worn multiple hats.
A Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
Experience with NetSuite, Avalara or managing outsourced tax preparers.

Responsibilities

Coordinate with, provide data to, and quality-check the deliverables of our external tax consulting firms.
Learn, manage, and eventually own our annual tax provisioning process (ASC 740).
Support overall tax compliance, including estimated tax payments, sales tax processes, and 1099 compliance.
Spend roughly 20% of your time assisting the GL team with close activities, journal entries, account reconciliations, and ad-hoc requests.
Identify and communicate tax risks and savings opportunities to senior management while streamlining internal GL and tax processes.
