About The Position

Sargent & Lundy is currently seeking a Senior Tax Analyst! The Senior Tax Analyst is a key member of the corporate tax department responsible for ensuring the company’s federal, state, and local tax as well as internation tax compliance, supporting both direct as well as indirect tax compliance and contributing to tax planning and process improvement initiatives. The role works closely with internal stakeholders (finance, accounting, payroll, legal, and business units) and S&L leadership. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5 –10+ years of progressive tax experience, a mix of public accounting and/or corporate tax department work, with solid exposure to corporate income tax compliance and research.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. federal and state corporate tax rules, and familiarity with multi-state issues
  • Proficiency with Excel
  • Demonstrated analytical, research, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication for working with internal stakeholders and auditors.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s in Taxation and/or CPA are preferred and strongly valued.
  • experience with international tax, transfer pricing, or indirect taxes is a plus.
  • experience with major ERP systems (such as Workday, SAP etc.) and tax technology tools is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a point of contact for external tax advisers for U.S. federal, state, and local filings, coordinating scope, timelines, information requests, and deliverables.
  • Gather, validate, and organize financial and transactional data (from GL, project accounting, payroll, legal, and HR) needed by external firms for returns, elections, and other tax work.
  • Research tax issues, document positions, and support implementation of tax planning strategies aligned with business operations and risk tolerance.
  • Support responses to tax notices and audits from taxing authorities, coordinating data gathering, explanations, and resolution.
  • Own or support selected in-house indirect tax compliance (e.g., sales/use, VAT/GST equivalents where applicable, property tax, business licenses), including registrations, data preparation, filings, and payments, and interface with advisers on more complex issues.
  • Maintain an up-to-date entity and filing calendar (jurisdictions, IDs, registrations, elections, ownership changes) and ensure external firms are working from accurate entity data.
  • Monitor tax law and guidance affecting partnerships, S-corps, and indirect taxes, summarizing key impacts and coordinating implementation with external advisers.
  • Help maintain and improve tax processes, controls, and documentation, including relevant controls, standard workpapers, and use of tax technology/tools.
  • Provide analytical support on business initiatives and special projects (e.g., transactions, new jurisdictions, restructurings, tax credits) by modeling tax impacts and working with finance and accounting teams.
  • Mentor junior tax staff, review their work for accuracy, and contribute to a strong internal control and continuous-improvement culture.
