About The Position

The Senior Tax Analyst serves as the primary technical lead for Karcher North America’s indirect tax function. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, this role is designed to be the Tax Manager’s right hand, shifting from mere execution to strategic oversight. You will ensure the integrity of tax data, manage sophisticated tax technology, and serve as a final check on technical decisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance (experience in related field in lieu of education accepted)
  • 7+ year’s relevant experience in tax research, tax return preparation or public accounting experience, working closely with tax.
  • Excellent communication skills paired with the ability to work well within the team and both internal/external customers.
  • Extensive experience with CCH, Avalara, and indirect tax research tools.
  • Ability to review and document advanced processes to create efficiencies and develop best practices.
  • Ability to translate complex tax law into actionable internal training and best practices.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel Skills to include understanding of the following: VLOOKUP, pivot tables, complex/advanced functions.
  • Working knowledge of SAP or S4 Hana (or other ERP framework), manufacturing industry preferred.
  • Multi-task talented with the ability to prioritize workload.
  • Strong understanding of sales and use taxation paired with other tax type experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Review 3rd party prepared tax returns to ensure timely compliance with State and Local tax law per assigned jurisdictions regarding multiple tax types.
  • Serve as the primary owner of the centralized tax inbox/ticketing system.
  • Manage the triage, research, and resolution of all internal and external sales tax inquiries.
  • Act as a key decision-maker for taxability questions; provide formal approvals and guidance on complex tax matters.
  • Utilize CCH and other advanced tax research tools to maintain an up-to-date exemption matrix and manage sales tax exemptions.
  • Lead the preparation of audit workpapers and initial analysis of findings; draft formal protests or appeals to reduce liabilities.
  • Execute nexus studies to identify filing obligations and facilitate the resolution of state notices.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for Avalara and tax software maintenance; troubleshoot IT and Tax software issues and coordinate system updates.
  • Facilitate interdepartmental training to build stronger relationships and establish best practices across the organization.
  • Complete special projects based on departmental needs to assist the Tax Manager in meeting strategic goals.
