Senior Systems Security Engineer (SSE)

Integration Innovation•Huntsville, AL

About The Position

Integration Innovation, Inc. (i3) is seeking a highly experienced Senior Systems Security Engineer to lead the integration of Supply Chain Risk Management (SCRM) and program protection principles into a complex missiles portfolio. The role serves as the primary technical authority for ensuring critical defense systems are architected, designed, and sustained to withstand advanced persistent threats and malicious insertions across hardware, software, and firmware supply chains. The engineer establishes secure design principles, anti-tamper solutions, and cryptographic protections, and acts as a strategic technical advisor and mentor to engineering staff. The role connects high-level program protection plans with engineering execution to safeguard vulnerable nodes across procurement, design, and development. It also requires close coordination with cybersecurity teams and program protection working groups, as well as the preparation of technical reports and executive briefings that explain supply chain risks and their operational and mission impacts. i3 is a 100% team member-owned mid-tier integrator headquartered in Huntsville, Alabama, with offices in Orlando, Florida, and the National Capital Region. Founded in 2007, the company has more than 800 employee-owners and works across national defense disciplines including systems and software engineering, modeling, simulation and training, cybersecurity, digital engineering, enterprise IT, and manufacturing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • At least 10 years of professional experience in systems security engineering, focused directly on DoW weapon systems or critical defense infrastructure protection.
  • Strong background in systems engineering principles, risk management, and the defense acquisition lifecycle.
  • Active Top Secret security clearance and ability to maintain the clearance required for the position.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Deep technical expertise in anti-tamper technologies, hardware/software/firmware assurance, cryptography, and secure system design.
  • Familiarity with program protection concepts and the role of Systems Security Engineering within DoW acquisition.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of DoW Instruction 5200.44 (Protection of Mission Critical Functions).
  • Thorough understanding of the interplay between SCRM, Systems Security Engineering, and the DoW acquisition lifecycle.
  • Exceptional executive communication, briefing, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to translate complex engineering risks into clear, actionable, decision-ready briefings for non-technical leadership.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with shifting priorities.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a relevant engineering discipline.
  • CISSP certification with an Information Systems Security Engineering Professional (ISSEP) concentration.
  • Relevant DAWIA certification in Engineering or Systems Engineering.
  • Direct experience designing, implementing, or assessing protection measures for Middle Tier of Acquisition (MTA) and ACAT I/II-level DoW programs.
  • Eligibility for SCI clearance is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development and implementation of the Program Protection Plan (PPP), integrating its principles into the Systems Engineering Plan (SEP) and overall system architecture.
  • Architect, design, and oversee integration of security controls, anti-tamper measures, secure boot, and cryptographic components throughout the system development lifecycle.
  • Serve as the lead technical advisor on hardware, software, and firmware assurance, including conducting and reviewing component-level supply chain risk assessments.
  • Direct identification, assessment, and mitigation of vulnerabilities in Critical Program Information (CPI) and mission-critical functions.
  • Support decomposition of complex weapon system architectures to identify CPI and vulnerable nodes.
  • Conduct complex weapons systems supply chain mapping and identify and monitor SCRM risks and vulnerabilities.
  • Oversee analysis of supply chain threat intelligence and assess and communicate potential mission impacts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with cybersecurity teams to align program protection measures with the Risk Management Framework (RMF) and DoW cybersecurity policies.
  • Direct program protection working groups comprising Systems Engineers, Cybersecurity Analysts, Traditional Security Officers, Anti-Tamper Evaluation Teams, and SCRM representatives.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to program managers, systems security engineers, design engineers, software developers, and logistics personnel on threats and countermeasures.
  • Prepare technical reports, executive briefs, and mitigation plans that translate supply chain risks into operational and mission impacts.
