About The Position

Leidos Defense is seeking a Senior System Safety Engineer to join a matrixed organization of systems engineers, model-based systems engineers, and specialty systems engineers. The position will primarily support a hypersonics development program, with opportunities to contribute to multiple efforts. Work includes analysis of hardware and software safety risks to operators and equipment under MIL-STD-882, across classified and unclassified work. The engineer will work independently, coordinate with Integrated Product Teams, and define tasking based on customer needs and contractual documents. Assignments may require different safety artifacts, including hazard tracking, mitigation, and regular customer reporting through deliverables. The role leads the prime contractor system safety working group, engages with the customer, and works closely with the program’s systems engineering team to ensure system compliance and satisfaction of customer needs. It offers the opportunity to contribute to critical defense programs and develop expertise across concurrent efforts. Experience in areas such as risk management, systems engineering, human factors engineering, and reliability analysis is preferred. The posting notes potential career progression into leadership roles in System Safety Engineering, Systems Engineering, and Systems Engineering Integration and Test (SEIT).
