About The Position

The group’s main business is the implementation of mission critical digital land mobile radio communication systems for Government and Public Safety Communication customers. The Post-Sale Systems Engineering team is the technical lifeblood of the Systems Integration organization. Our engineers design and implement the innovative communications solutions that make a difference in “Solving for Safer”. As the solution architect and technical consulting lead, the Systems Engineering team has the end-to-end design, technology consultancy, and implementation responsibility for all post-sale project engagements. The Systems Engineering team delivers customer drive, world-class, leading edge, end-to-end solutions that rise to the challenges of our First Responder and Government customers. The Engineering team concentrates on the following mission-critical communications technologies at all levels of complexity (ie: from small municipal systems to large metropolitan and state-wide solutions). Public safety grade mobile voice and data communications networks, Advanced mobile devices, Public safety mobile broadband networks and devices (LTE), Integrated Command and Control (911 dispatch consoles, advanced video surveillance, and other public safety applications), Microwave, Fiber, and other backhaul connection topologies. The work we do is meaningful, impactful, and leading edge. You will be a part of a dynamic cross-functional client-facing team including sales, system integrators, product engineers, third party vendors, project managers, and senior systems engineers - often on large and highly-visible, multi-million dollar engagements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering discipline and 7+ years of engineering or relevant work experience in wireless communications and/or land mobile radio engineering.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely is required.
  • Employer work permit sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • Must be able to obtain background clearance and CIJS certification as required by government customers.

Responsibilities

  • Managing the systems engineering resources and activities across one or more departments, functional or organizational areas.
  • Managing engineering resources focused on land mobile radio system deployments.
  • Mentoring and motivating others.
  • Overseeing activities of one or more departments.
  • Can lead the implementation of new technologies and the most complex projects.
  • Manages operational and fiscal activities including staffing levels, budgets, project labor quoting, and financial goals.
  • Develops and establishes operational policies within the area managed and delegates assignments.
  • Facilitates cross-functional, inter-department collaboration.
  • Understands sales to service framework.
  • Is accountable for and contributes towards profitability and/or cost containment by indirectly impacting the P&L through project work, tools development, and/or functional management.
  • Is responsible for customer satisfaction and quality of engineering deliverables within the scope of assigned activities.
  • Is responsible for productivity and professional growth of assigned employees.
  • Regularly interfaces with senior Motorola leadership, key internal/external organizations and governmental bodies.
  • Coordinates activities and direction through highly matrixed relationships.
  • Handles internal/external customer relationships as required at a senior level.
  • Evaluates fundamental problems within the assigned department and is expected to develop successful solutions.
  • Manages activities with complex or conflicting legal requirements, technology requirements, or cultures.
  • Relies on multiple constituencies to pursue and adopt common specifications/standards.
  • Requires collaboration and operational execution with other Motorola businesses or external entities.
