About The Position

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is hiring a full-time Senior Systems Engineer to lead the Edifecs application support organization for a Veterans Affairs (VA) department. This is a 100% U.S.-based remote W-2 position, with candidates from California, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, and Washington excluded. U.S. citizenship is required, and candidates must possess or qualify for a Public Trust (MBI). Selected applicants are subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information and a government-granted security clearance. The role requires at least 10 years of relevant professional experience and a master’s degree in a technical discipline. The Senior Systems Engineer provides technical leadership for Edifecs platform operations, ensuring stability, scalability, compliance, and strategic alignment. The role oversees staffing and technical direction, drives roadmap execution, and collaborates with product, architecture, vendor, business, EDI, DevSecOps, cloud, development, operations, and security teams. It includes guiding architecture and modernization decisions, managing platform performance and cloud scalability, supporting releases and upgrades, and troubleshooting EDI transactions and integrations. The position involves hands-on configuration and maintenance of Edifecs XEServer, XEngine, TPMs, SpecBuilder, and related modules; supporting EDI analysts with processing rules, routing logic, and batch workflows; and managing logging, JVM tuning, certificates, and keystores. The engineer also addresses EDI mapping, validation, functional, throughput, and performance issues; supports high availability and failover; and applies AWS, infrastructure-as-code, compliance, audit, governance, Agile, and documentation practices. SSG encourages military veterans to apply. Applicants must ensure mandatory screening responses are supported by their resumes. Recruiters and third parties will not be considered. Interviews are conducted on Microsoft Teams with cameras on, and candidates will be asked to provide a LinkedIn profile link.
