Senior Systems Engineer

GM•Sunnyvale, CA
•$189,530 - $189,530•Hybrid

About The Position

The Senior Systems Engineer defines requirements and metrics to validate perception software for safe and comfortable autonomous vehicle operations. The role owns the analysis and characterization of perception systems that inform software development and launch decisions, and develops simulation-based and road-based testing strategies for continuous, scalable software releases. It applies systems engineering and data analysis to support data-driven design validation, risk analysis, and prioritization. The engineer owns roadmaps for long-term, stable requirements verification and validation, and software solutions to advanced problems across multiple product lifecycles. The role also mentors team members and facilitates cross-team collaboration to establish perception validation strategies for new launches. The position follows a hybrid work policy: three days in the office and two days remote, with the ability to report to a local office.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field of study.
  • Five years of experience as a Software Engineer, Perception Algorithm Developer Engineer, or in a related role.
  • Five years of experience in systems engineering robotics, systems analysis, data analysis, and statistical analysis.
  • Three years of experience using SQL, Python, and C++ for large datasets.
  • Three years of experience evaluating machine-learned systems and setting acceptance criteria for perception systems and state estimators.
  • Three years of experience with detection and classification metrics, including precision, recall, and footprint overlap.
  • Three years of experience with vehicle dynamics and deriving requirements based on physics.
  • Must be able to report to a local office under the hybrid work policy.

Responsibilities

  • Define requirements and metrics for validating perception software for safe and comfortable autonomous vehicle operations.
  • Analyze and characterize perception systems to inform software development and launch decisions.
  • Prototype and develop simulation-based and road-based testing strategies for continuous and scaled software release cycles.
  • Apply systems engineering and data analysis to support data-driven design validation, risk analysis, and prioritization decisions.
  • Own roadmaps for long-term requirements verification and validation, and software solutions to advanced problems across multiple product lifecycles.
  • Mentor team members and facilitate cross-team collaboration to define perception validation strategies for new launches.
