Senior Systems Engineer- Development

Epirus•Torrance, CA
•$117,000 - $163,000

About The Position

Epirus is a high-growth technology company focused on addressing future national security challenges. Its flagship product, Leonidas, is a software-defined system that uses intelligent power management techniques to help power-hungry systems do more with less. The Senior Systems Engineer works with a multidisciplinary engineering team and reports to the Senior Manager, Systems Engineering. The role spans the full system development lifecycle, with responsibilities ranging from customer needs through unit-level specifications. It focuses on requirements definition and management, system architecture and analysis, change management, interface definition, and planning and execution of integration, verification, and validation (IV&V). The team uses Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) where possible to make systems engineering processes more thorough and efficient. The position also supports new solution architectures and proposals, maintains architectural alignment during development, and coordinates across hardware, software, firmware, and other engineering disciplines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace, or a similar field.
  • At least 5 years of industry experience, or at least 3 years with a master's degree; experience spanning the product lifecycle from concept to delivery is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience contributing to the establishment of a system or product technical baseline.
  • Experience with systems engineering tools for requirements management and product lifecycle management, such as JAMA, Polarion, or DOORS.
  • Experience with MBSE tools, such as SparxEA or Capella.
  • Experience with Python development or a similar object-oriented language.
  • Experience with Git/GitHub or a similar version control system.
  • Ability to identify gaps, prioritize them in the context of a project or program, and lead cross-team efforts to resolve issues.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with RF systems, such as radar, communications, or electronic warfare, preferably including phased arrays.
  • Experience in system safety and reliability engineering.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including willingness to ask for help or raise technical disagreements for discussion.
  • Collaborative approach and ability to work across all organizational levels.
  • Ability to anticipate and communicate blockers, delays, and project cost increases before escalation is required.
  • Organized and comfortable working in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Ability to stay focused on priorities and rapidly deliver customer value.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to system requirements definition and management for a product.
  • Ensure Key Performance Parameters derived through mission modeling and operational analysis are properly flowed into system requirements.
  • Interface with existing or prospective customers to demonstrate that system requirements satisfy customer requirements and needs.
  • Coordinate key requirements with subsystem design teams, ensuring requirements flow-down to hardware and software subsystems is captured and traced.
  • Collaborate with design engineering to capture system architecture in MBSE diagrams, including structural and behavioral diagrams.
  • Work with business development to create architectures for new solutions and applications in proposals.
  • Maintain architectural definition throughout development to ensure team alignment.
  • Develop interface control documentation and manage interfaces between hardware, software, and firmware subsystems.
  • Perform trade studies and quick-turn impact analyses to support agile hardware, software, and firmware development.
  • Analyze whether system requirements are addressed by the system design.
  • Ensure adherence to configuration management best practices.
  • Facilitate multidisciplinary coordination across teams.
  • Participate in IV&V planning and preparation.
