About The Position

The Senior Systems Engineer leads and participates in the development of enterprise-level direction and strategy for the Server/Network infrastructure. This role involves researching and evaluating current and emerging technologies, making recommendations for technology initiatives, and performing architect duties for strategic planning to ensure effective technology solutions. The engineer will analyze capacity, forecast growth, monitor trends, and evaluate new technologies for functionality, interoperability, reliability, and supportability. This position also serves as an administrator for a complex network infrastructure, including firewalls, switches, access points, and internet connections, designing, developing, installing, integrating, and maintaining the infrastructure. Responsibilities include establishing network standards, monitoring network traffic, and performing advanced troubleshooting. The role also involves providing lead engineer direction, managing upgrades, developing contingency and disaster recovery plans, and evaluating hardware, software, and cabling enhancements. Additionally, the Senior Systems Engineer will evaluate and recommend monitoring and management tools, maintain network documentation, and perform third-tier problem resolution. Innovation in designing new internal solutions for scalability and troubleshooting escalated technical support and systems administration tasks are also key functions.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree required
  • Industry Standard Technical Certifications (Cisco, Microsoft, VMware, ITIL)
  • 5-10 years of experience in systems and network engineering, IT, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of systems and network engineering principles, methodologies, and tools.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Server Operating System(s) - Administration, Configuration, and Support.
  • Experience with Networking Protocols, Hardware, and Infrastructure, such as Cisco/Meraki, Fortinet, Juniper, or Aruba.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Leads and participates in development of enterprise-level direction and strategy applicable to the Server/Network infrastructure.
  • Researches and evaluates current and emerging technologies and methodologies and makes recommendations for technology initiatives.
  • Performs Server/Network architect duties and participates in strategic planning.
  • Analyzes capacity and forecasts growth requirements.
  • Monitors technology and industry trends and works closely with technology stakeholders to evaluate the uses of emerging technology.
  • Participates in the evaluation of new technologies to determine their functionality.
  • Recommends hardware, software and communication media upgrades and enhancements.
  • Participates in lifecycle replacement planning processes.
  • Serves as administrator for a large, complex, multi-segment, wired and wireless network infrastructure, including Firewall, Switches, and Access Points and internet connections.
  • Designs, develops, installs, integrates and maintains the infrastructure incorporating multiple technologies, components, protocols and vendor products and systems.
  • Establishes network standards, including naming conventions and address protocols.
  • Utilizing a variety of software and tools, monitors and analyzes network traffic and capacity utilization to achieve optimal performance and availability.
  • Analyzes data to identify and resolve reasons for communications bottlenecks.
  • Provides lead engineer direction and guidance and manages Server/Network upgrades and conversions.
  • Develops and recommends Server/Network contingency and disaster recovery plans.
  • Develops specifications for Server/Network hardware, software and cabling upgrades and enhancements.
  • Participates with the IT Leadership to evaluate and recommend network and systems hardware and software.
  • Develops and recommends cabling and connectivity standards, uses and levels.
  • Evaluates and recommends software, tools, and utilities to aid in monitoring and managing network performance and security.
  • Develops and maintains network documentation and reference tools.
  • Performs advanced troubleshooting on network hardware, software, and connectivity problems.
  • Performs third-tier problem resolution.
  • Innovate and design new internal solutions that allow us to scale.
  • Troubleshoot third level technical support and systems administration tasks as escalated by Help Desk and partner teams.
  • Plans, designs, configures, implements, maintains, and supports server hardware and software, and server management tools.
  • Strategic planning, disaster recovery, and redundancy.
  • Provides detailed project management documentation for all major projects and strategic plans.
