About The Position

The Boeing Global Services (BGS) Engineering team is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer in Long Beach, California. This role involves creating and implementing innovative technologies to advance aerospace, providing engineering design and support, including aftermarket modifications, and enhancing product and services safety. The successful candidate will join a highly collaborative team with a passion for design architecture details, supporting C-17 airplane programs in services and modernization with airworthiness assignments. This includes sustaining airplane programs with new design changes implemented to the fleet. The work statement offers the opportunity to perform airworthiness at the component, system, and airplane level across various functional disciplines such as Avionics, Mechanical, Environmental, Electrical, and Propulsion. The ideal candidate will be adept at evaluating system architectures to determine the consequences of design changes for airworthiness processes and will collaborate with Design Engineers to provide necessary artifacts/data that meet regulations. A strong engineering background with a solid understanding of certification processes is essential. This position contributes to the continued safe operation of the C-17 fleets, valuing diversity, equity, and inclusion.

  • Skill and ability to collect, organize, synthesize, and analyze data; summarize findings; develop conclusions and recommendations from appropriate data sources.
  • Knowledge of verification, validation, certification and qualification processes and procedures, including knowledge of governing regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Requirements management experience.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), computer science, engineering data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.
  • 9+ years of related work experience.
  • Experience in Systems Engineering.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.

Nice To Haves

  • 4+ years of experience with commercial or military airplane certification, and procedures.
  • Familiarity with airworthiness methodology and criteria, MIL-STD 516C preferred.
  • Experience with requirements management.
  • Experience with MIL-STD's.

Responsibilities

  • Assess project plans for airworthiness impacts.
  • Review and assessment project development and test artifacts for applicability to, and substantiation of, airworthiness criteria.
  • Work with internal and customer teams for airworthiness criteria applicability and compliance.
  • Create and submit airworthiness compliance packages.
  • Apply Systems Engineering principles, tools, and techniques to the Design, Technical Documents, Testing, and Certification of aircraft.
  • Ability to understand the big picture and the inter-relationships of all positions and activities in the system, including the impact of changes in one area on another area. This includes the ability to see and understand the inter-relationships between components of systems and plans, anticipate future events, and apply the principles of systems thinking to accelerate performance.
  • Ability to assess and document test or analysis data to show compliance.
  • Resolves cross-functional technical issues.
