About The Position

GDIT is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to join their team. This role involves transforming technology into opportunity by connecting and enhancing critical systems. The engineer will be at the forefront of innovation, improving agency operations and ensuring today is safe and tomorrow is smarter. The position is currently located in Elkridge, MD, with a planned relocation to another site in the National Capital Region in Summer 2026.

Requirements

  • BA/BS + 8 years of related experience
  • Active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph
  • DoD Manual 8570.01-M at the Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level II role
  • Working technical competency in one or more of the following supported platforms: Microsoft Windows Server, Red Hat Enterprise Linux servers, MS Hyper-V/VMWare/ ESx /Xen Hypervisors

Responsibilities

  • Develops and applies advanced engineering and design methods, theories, and research techniques to solve complex system requirements, hardware/software interfaces, and applications.
  • Operates and sustains the daily use of VMware infrastructure, including updating, testing, and deploying vSphere and vCenter product releases.
  • Identifies and reports concerns or issues during installation, testing, and deployment of new software releases.
  • Manages and administers physical and virtual servers, primarily Windows and Linux.
  • Supports server virtualization, server provisioning, physical server maintenance, security compliance, and daily operations.
  • Manages VMware vSphere with an emphasis on automation, and enterprise storage and backup system administration, installation, and maintenance.
  • Maintains the server lifecycle, including provisioning, maintenance, and decommissioning of hardware.
  • Maintains the virtualized server environment through configuration, implementation, management, and support activities.
  • Monitors the virtual server infrastructure environment's health status, service performance, and utilization.
  • Implements and maintains continuous compliance with information security policies and technical standards, reporting and remediating non-compliances.
  • Maintains security baseline compliance through configuration, implementation, and remediation activities.
  • Troubleshoots, maintains integrity, and configures network components, along with implementing operating system enhancements to improve reliability and performance.
  • Integrates new technologies into existing systems, including the transition and migration of corporate systems.
  • Performs systems administration of desktop and server systems connected to local and wide area networks.
  • Manages desktop systems, including account monitoring, security, Operating System (OS) installation, and other local area system administration functions.
  • Provides installation and operational support of voice and data communications hardware and software systems.
  • Diagnoses and troubleshoots storage systems and related technologies.
  • Oversees the installation of new storage hardware and software according to standard operating procedures.
  • Performs configuration of operating system and security patches for host and distributed systems.
  • Implements incident response procedures during incidents of a network or host security breach.
  • Reviews customer requirements and makes recommendations for changes to existing technical architecture.
  • Complies with prescribed customer, industry, and agency standards.
  • Provides support to IT systems, including day-to-day operations, monitoring, and problem resolution for client/server/storage/network devices, mobile devices, etc.
  • Supports, administers, and maintains enterprise data center systems, including physical and virtual servers, storage, backups, monitoring, and automation.
  • Participates in special projects.
