About The Position

BAE Systems Space & Mission Systems (SMS) is seeking a Systems Engineer specializing in modeling and simulation of complex remote sensing Systems of Systems. The role develops digital models used by the U.S. Government to understand engagement environments and support strategic planning and policy. It combines systems engineering and software development, using AFSIM, C++, and Python to create high-fidelity models and scalable, cloud-native software artifacts. The engineer contributes to Digital Engineering Excellence by ensuring models are accurate, validated, and integrated into an automated lifecycle. The position is part of the Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit, whose cross-functional teams deliver technologies for customer missions and emphasize innovation, integrity, continual learning, and execution. This is an on-site position requiring in-person work five days each normally scheduled week at the primary work location. Travel and local commuting between company campuses and other locations may be required. Work may take place in an office, laboratory, production floor, cleanroom, outdoors, or a remote research environment. Occasional work in production areas may require protective equipment, and access to other facilities may involve varying weather conditions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field, plus at least 4 years of related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, such as a master’s degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience.
  • Degree must be from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Current, active Secret security clearance and ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI clearance.
  • Excellent Python skills and proficiency in C++ and Python.
  • Working knowledge of MBSE and ability to create functional models and activity diagrams that support real-world design.
  • Interest in using AFSIM or similar modeling tools to solve complex problems.
  • Comfort working in a Linux environment and understanding of moving code through a CI/CD pipeline into a secure cloud.
  • Ability to assess a complex system and identify an efficient path from its current state to an optimal future state.
  • Ability to translate complex analysis into clear, engaging narratives for internal partners and external customers, communicating professionally across organizational levels.
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate openly in small, high-impact teams.
  • Ability to work on-site five days each normally scheduled week; travel and local commuting between company campuses and other locations may be required.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Electrical, Aerospace, Systems, or Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Commitment to continual learning and demonstrated ability to pilot innovative workflows in collaboration with domain experts.
  • Interest in evolving traditional systems engineering processes into modern, digital-first methodologies.
  • Alignment with Department of War (DoW) MBSE best practices and broader Digital Engineering strategy.
  • Experience in Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) or Scrum environments delivering complex software artifacts.
  • Professional experience with AFSIM and Cameo for high-fidelity modeling and simulation.
  • Proficiency in GitLab and Bash and PowerShell scripting to automate workflows in virtualized environments.
  • Experience using LaTeX to create technical reports and academic-grade documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Define and capture requirements, design, and employment of complex remote sensing systems for future engagement environments.
  • Develop and optimize models and analysis tools using C++ and Python, primarily with AFSIM, in Linux and Windows environments.
  • Integrate MBSE tools into the model lifecycle and support interaction between external system models and internal designs.
  • Develop and deploy software artifacts to secure cloud environments using established CI/CD pipelines.
  • Create analysis tools and testing frameworks to improve software development speed and accuracy.
  • Analyze existing workflows and design transitions to optimized future states, providing technical roadmaps for system modernization.
  • Develop standard, repeatable processes for developing and integrating remote sensing models across multiple projects.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for digital engineering and provide technical strategies connecting projects and customer needs.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships across the department, Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units, and the company.
  • Interact appropriately with others to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

Benefits

  • Health, dental, and vision insurance for eligible regular employees scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week.
  • Health savings accounts.
  • 401(k) savings plan.
  • Disability coverage.
  • Life and accident insurance.
  • Employee assistance program.
  • Legal plan.
  • Discounts on home, auto, and pet insurance.
  • Paid time off and paid holidays.
  • Paid parental and military leave, bereavement leave, and applicable federal and state sick leave.
  • Company recognition program with monetary or non-monetary awards.
  • Other incentives may be available based on position level and job specifics.
