About The Position

The Senior Systems Engineer is a senior individual contributor and technical anchor on a small Systems and Network team, responsible for core infrastructure in a large, regulated hybrid environment spanning Windows and Linux servers and endpoints, on-premises VMware, and Azure. The role owns on-premises server platforms, Active Directory and identity services, enterprise patching, and the enterprise backup platform, along with the systems-side IT general controls that depend on them. It also supports Windows and Linux workloads hosted in Azure according to standards set by the cloud platform team, and partners with Information Security on server-estate remediation while Information Security retains ownership of its security tooling, vulnerability-management program, and audit findings. The position focuses on operating and modernizing infrastructure, automating repetitive work, expanding coverage across identity and core platforms, and reducing the infrastructure improvement backlog. It also supports Microsoft 365, email security, managed file transfer, and—in backup capacity—enterprise switching, firewall, and SD-WAN. The role is based at Corporate Headquarters in Greenville, South Carolina, with hybrid flexibility, shared on-call rotation, and occasional travel as needed.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of experience in Windows/Linux systems administration or infrastructure engineering at a senior level.
  • Strong Active Directory, Group Policy, and Entra ID identity expertise.
  • Hands-on VMware (ESXi/vCenter) and Azure experience, including virtual machines, networking, and security.
  • Experience with enterprise patching and vulnerability remediation across Windows and Linux, including RHEL.
  • Experience with an enterprise backup platform, including restore testing.
  • Strong automation skills; PowerShell is required. Bash and Python are listed as a plus.
  • Bias for action and ownership of problems through resolution.
  • Comfort working in a regulated environment, including GLBA/NIST and SOX controls, and clear communication with non-technical partners.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Financial services or lending experience with regulated data.
  • ADFS/federation and IAM automation tooling experience.
  • Mobile device management, EDR, and vulnerability-management platform experience.
  • RHEL depth, SAN and clustering, and managed file transfer platform experience.
  • SOX/ITGC audit experience.
  • Certifications such as AZ-104, VCP, RHCSA/Linux+, Security+, or CCNA.

Responsibilities

  • Own and optimize VMware (ESXi/vCenter), Windows Server, and primarily RHEL Linux platforms, including lifecycle, performance, hardening, uptime, SAN, and clustered storage.
  • Own Active Directory, Group Policy, and Entra ID; expand coverage of ADFS and automated identity provisioning and deprovisioning (IAM).
  • Own enterprise patching across Windows and Linux, advancing automation through phased rings, maintenance windows, automated pre- and post-checks and rollback, and backlog clearance.
  • Remediate vulnerability and penetration-test findings routed by Information Security.
  • Maintain stable, audit-ready IT general controls supporting SOX and audit obligations, including evidence for patching, backups, and access.
  • Own the enterprise backup platform, including jobs, retention, immutable and offsite copies, and scheduled restore testing.
  • Participate in business continuity and disaster recovery (BCP/DR) exercises and audit-readiness programs.
  • Use PowerShell, Bash, and Python to automate provisioning, patching, backup validation, and reporting.
  • Develop golden images and templates to reduce configuration drift, with strong monitoring and alerting.
  • Build, patch, and support Windows and Linux virtual machines hosted in Azure, following the cloud platform team’s landing-zone, networking, and security standards.
  • Deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot agents and server-side infrastructure for endpoint protection, vulnerability management, file-integrity monitoring, inventory, and patch management tools in partnership with Information Security.
  • Administer Microsoft 365 and the email security platform.
  • Administer the managed file transfer platform, including workflows, partner connections, certificates and keys, and monitoring.
  • Provide hands-on enterprise switching, firewall, and SD-WAN support as backup to the network architect.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
