About The Position

GDIT is seeking a Systems Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be at the forefront of innovation, playing a meaningful part in improving how agencies operate. You will help ensure today is safe and tomorrow is smarter by developing and applying advanced engineering and design methods, theories, and research techniques to solve complex system requirements, hardware/software interfaces, applications, and solutions. You will operate and sustain the ongoing daily operational use of VMware infrastructure, including updating, testing, and deploying vSphere and vCenter product releases, identifying and reporting issues encountered during installation, testing, and deployment. You will manage and administer physical and virtual servers (primarily Windows and Linux), support server virtualization, provisioning, physical server maintenance, security compliance, and daily operations. This includes managing VMware vSphere with an emphasis on automation, and enterprise storage and backup system administration, installation, and ongoing maintenance. You will maintain the server lifecycle, including provisioning, maintenance, and decommissioning of hardware, and maintain the virtualized server environment through configuration, implementation, management, and support activities. You will monitor the virtual server infrastructure environment’s health status, service performance, and utilization, and implement and maintain continuous compliance with information security policies and technical standards, reporting and remediating non-compliances. You will maintain security baseline compliance through configuration, implementation, and remediation activities, and troubleshoot, maintain integrity, and configure network components. You will also implement operating system enhancements to improve reliability and performance, integrate new technologies into existing systems, and perform systems administration of desktop and server systems connected to local and wide area networks. This includes account monitoring, security, OS installation, and other local area system administration functions. You will provide installation and operational support of voice and data communications hardware and software systems, diagnose and troubleshoot storage systems and other related technologies, and oversee the installation of new storage hardware and software. You will perform configuration of operating system and security patches for host and distributed systems and implement incident response procedures. You will review customer requirements and make recommendations for changes to existing technical architecture, complying with prescribed customer, industry, and agency standards. You will provide support to IT systems, including day-to-day operations, monitoring, and problem resolution for client/server/storage/network devices, and mobile devices. You will also support, administer, and maintain enterprise data center systems comprised of physical and virtual servers, storage, backups, monitoring, and automation, and participate in special projects.

Requirements

  • BA/BS + 8 years
  • DoD Manual 8570.01-M at the Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level II role
  • TS/SCI clearance and ability to obtain and maintain a Polygraph
  • Working technical competency in one or more of the following supported platforms: Microsoft Windows Server, Red Hat Enterprise Linux servers, MS Hyper-V/VMWare/ ESx /Xen Hypervisors

Responsibilities

  • Develops and applies advanced engineering and design methods, theories and research techniques in the investigation and solution of complex and advanced system requirements, hardware/software interfaces and applications and solutions.
  • Operate and sustain the on-going daily operational use of VMware infrastructure including updating, testing and deploying the vSphere and vCenter product releases.
  • Identify and report concerns or issues encountered during installation, testing and deployment of new software releases.
  • Manage and administer physical and virtual servers, primarily Windows and Linux servers.
  • Support and management of server virtualization, server provisioning, physical server maintenance, security compliance and daily operations.
  • Manage VMware vSphere, with emphasis on automation, and enterprise storage and backup system administration, installation and on-going maintenance experience.
  • Maintain server lifecycle - provisioning, maintenance, and decommissioning of the hardware.
  • Maintain the virtualized server environment via configuration, implementation, management and support activities.
  • Monitor the virtual server infrastructure environment’s health status, service performance, and utilization.
  • Implement and maintain continuous compliance to information security policies and technical standards, reporting and remediation of non-compliances.
  • Maintain the security baseline compliance via configuration, implementation, and remediation activities.
  • Troubleshoot, maintain integrity and configure network components along with implementing operating systems enhancements to improve reliability and performance.
  • Integrate new technologies into new and existing systems including the transition and migration of corporate systems.
  • Perform systems administration of desktop and server systems connected to local and wide area networks.
  • Desktop system management responsibilities involving account monitoring, security, Operating System (OS) installation, and other local area system administration related functions.
  • Provides installation and operational support of voice and data communications hardware and software systems.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot storage systems and other related technologies.
  • Oversee the Installation of new storage hardware and software according to standard operating procedures.
  • Performs configuration of operating system and security patches for host and distributed systems and implements incident response procedures during incidents of a network or host security breach.
  • Reviews customer requirements and makes recommendations for changes to existing technical architecture.
  • Complies with prescribed customer, industry and agency standards.
  • Provide support to IT systems including day-to-day operations, monitoring and problem resolution for all of the client/server/storage/network devices, mobile devices, etc.
  • Support, administer and maintenance of enterprise data center systems comprised of both physical and virtual servers, storage, backups, monitoring and automation.
  • Participates in special projects.
