Senior Systems Engineer

Anduril IndustriesBoulder, CO

About The Position

We are seeking a hands-on Systems Engineer to join our team as we transition a Ladar product from the Engineering Development Unit (EDU) phase through Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD), and ultimately into high-rate production. You will play a pivotal role in scaling our build capacity to 10s of units per month. You will bridge the gap between design and manufacturing, lead rigorous testing campaigns, and help mature our hardware and software systems to achieve high Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) ahead of our upcoming Critical Design Review (CDR) and Manufacturing Readiness Review (MRR). A successful candidate will have a strong background in Electro-Optical (EO) systems, precision pointing, and a passion for transitioning complex hardware from R&D to the production floor.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of hardware-centric systems engineering experience working with Electro-Optical (EO) systems, Ladar/Lidar, or high-precision pointing systems.
  • Direct experience transitioning complex, multidisciplinary systems from low Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) to high TRL / production-ready status.
  • Strong familiarity with DVT campaigns, environmental testing standards, and field testing operations.
  • Practical knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DFM), test equipment ruggedization, and test process optimization/automation.
  • Experience leading or heavily contributing to systems engineering reviews such as CDR, MRR, or PRR.
  • Outstanding ability to communicate across multidisciplinary teams (optical, mechanical, electrical, firmware, software, and manufacturing).
  • Advanced proficiency in an analytical toolchains/languages (e.g., MATLAB, Python)
  • Strong laboratory skills (e.g. design of experiments)
  • Willingness to travel to test sites.
  • Must be able to obtain and hold a U.S. security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with software/hardware integration, specifically defining software interfaces, UI productization, and background software requirements.
  • Experience with software/firmware automated test frameworks.
  • Knowledge of current and next-generation advanced sensing systems and platforms

Responsibilities

  • Drive the EDU-to-EMD Transition: Oversee the deployment and test of our EDU builds, ensuring they are fully prepared to support field testing to demonstrate system capability and performance.
  • Lead Qualification & Testing: Design and execute a comprehensive Design Verification Testing (DVT) campaign to environmentally test and qualify the system.
  • Prepare for Major Milestones: Author technical documentation, define verification matrices, and lead systems-level preparation for upcoming Critical Design Reviews (CDR) and Manufacturing Readiness Reviews (MRR).
  • Scale for Production: Collaborate with manufacturing and hardware teams to implement Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles. Scale our production capabilities from a few units per year to a target volume of ~10s of systems per month.
  • Optimize Test Infrastructure: Architect, design, and ruggedize manufacturing test equipment for efficiency, throughput, and reliability on the production floor.
  • Automate & Integrate: Collaborate with software and firmware teams to implement robust test automation, while pushing the user interface (UI) and background software towards product-level maturity.
  • Adapt or derive physics-based models of sensor system performance and derive requirements based on those models, and validate models against laboratory and real world data
  • Support both laboratory-based and field-based experiments and demonstrations

Benefits

  • Highly competitive equity grants
  • Top-tier benefits for full-time employees
