About The Position

This is a remote, full-time contractor position for an autonomous, client-facing Senior Systems Engineer & IT Solutions Architect with extensive Managed Services Provider (MSP) experience. The role leads advanced systems administration, complex project delivery, and Tier-3 escalations across diverse client environments. The engineer is expected to diagnose unfamiliar technical challenges, identify client requirements, design viable architectures, collaborate with commercial and sales leads to define project scope, and execute approved solutions from design through production. The position spans solution architecture and pre-sales scoping, Windows Server and Azure administration, enterprise networking, workstation deployment, cybersecurity oversight, and co-managed IT advisory. It requires direct interaction with corporate stakeholders and client IT teams, fluent English communication, and the ability to work independently when documentation is incomplete. The schedule is 40 hours per week aligned with US Pacific Standard Time core business hours, with flexible on-call and overtime rotation and planned maintenance windows that may occur after hours or on weekends. The role is remote, with target locations in LATAM or South Africa. A quiet home office, capable workstation, reliable high-speed internet, and documented power and internet backup are required.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of direct technical experience in an MSP environment supporting multiple concurrent external client networks.
  • Deep operational expertise with Windows Server (2016–2025), Active Directory architecture, DNS/DHCP, and hybrid identity models.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft 365, Azure infrastructure—including VM provisioning, storage, and virtual networking—Entra ID, and Intune/Endpoint Manager.
  • Experience deploying and troubleshooting enterprise networking, including Cisco Meraki or UniFi, site-to-site VPNs, and subnet routing.
  • Ability to troubleshoot independently with incomplete documentation and design robust solutions for novel problems.
  • Fluent/C1-level English, with clear verbal and written communication suitable for executive-level client meetings and presentations.
  • Full-time schedule alignment with US Pacific Standard Time, with flexibility for planned maintenance and rotating on-call coverage.
  • Calm, consultative communication with corporate executives, internal IT leaders, and end-users during critical outages.
  • Dedicated, quiet home office free from ambient noise.
  • High-performance PC or workstation with at least 16 GB RAM, a modern multi-core processor, SSD storage, and dual- or triple-monitor capability.
  • High-speed, low-latency fiber internet with a minimum of 50+ Mbps download and upload.
  • Documented power and internet backup, such as a UPS/inverter or cellular failover.

Nice To Haves

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert or Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104).
  • CompTIA Security+, Network+, or CySA+ certification.
  • Cisco CCNA/CCNP or vendor-specific firewall certification, such as NSE 4+.

Responsibilities

  • Translate client business challenges into technical architectures for server migrations, cloud transitions, hybrid network builds, and cybersecurity enhancements.
  • Collaborate with account and sales teams to define technical scopes of work, equipment specifications, and project milestones before client presentations.
  • Execute approved engineering projects, including tenant migrations, Azure VM provisioning, firewall cutovers, and infrastructure upgrades.
  • Act as the senior escalation authority for Windows Server environments, including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS/DHCP, Hyper-V, and clustering.
  • Provision, manage, and optimize Azure Virtual Machines, Azure Virtual Desktop, Entra ID, Intune MDM, and hybrid cloud synchronization.
  • Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot enterprise networking equipment, including VLANs, VPNs, routing, managed switches, and next-generation firewalls.
  • Oversee automated device provisioning, baseline image standards, and remote monitoring and management policies.
  • Assess client security postures, identify vulnerabilities, and recommend measures such as EDR/MDR deployment, zero-trust policies, MFA, and patch compliance.
  • Work directly with client IT directors and sysadmins as a high-tier escalation and architecture partner.
  • Participate in scheduled on-call rotations and planned maintenance windows, including after-hours or weekend coverage as needed, to resolve critical incidents.
