About The Position

Rice Lake Weighing Systems is seeking an experienced Senior Systems & Classical Computer Vision Engineer to join their engineering team in Charlestown, MA. This role is at the intersection of classical 3D computer vision, hardware orchestration, and complex system heuristics. The engineering team is lean and agile, operating with a "Jack of all trades" mindset, where individuals will own code from low-level serial communication up to internal diagnostic tools, and may also assist with deployment pipelines or collaborate with field technicians.

Requirements

  • Deep experience building, debugging, and maintaining production-grade software in C and C++ within Linux environments.
  • Proven experience using classical CV techniques (via OpenCV) alongside 3D point clouds, stereo vision, or depth sensors (e.g., PCL).
  • Strong grasp of multi-threading, asynchronous I/O, and concurrency control.
  • Practical experience with low-level communication protocols (RS- 232, RS-485, USB/HID, TCP/IP sockets) to interface with physical peripherals.
  • Experience implementing complex, rule-based heuristics and hardware state machines.
  • A versatile problem-solver comfortable moving between different layers of software and hardware; strong foundational knowledge of linear algebra and spatial geometry.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with PHP and JavaScript for maintaining or building internal dashboards, configuration portals, or tooling.
  • Experience with build tools and automation servers like Jenkins to support our release pipeline.

Responsibilities

  • Own, debug, and optimize robust embedded and desktop software built for Linux environments.
  • Design and maintain classical computer vision, 3D point cloud processing, and image processing algorithms for spatial measurement.
  • Develop and maintain reliable communication layers for external devices like weight scales, RFID readers, and depth sensors.
  • Implement and refine edge-case logic, state machines, and timing mechanisms to ensure flawless hardware synchronization.
  • Create diagnostic utilities for algorithm testing, image quality evaluation, and field-data validation.
  • Work closely with field technicians to resolve live production issues, collaborate with QA to build test plans, and sync with management on product roadmaps.
