About The Position

The Senior Systems Administrator (Tier 3) is responsible for the design, administration, and optimization of the organization’s cloud and hybrid IT environments, with a strong focus on Microsoft 365, Azure, and modern endpoint management. This role serves as the highest level of technical escalation, providing expert troubleshooting and root cause analysis to ensure system reliability, performance, and security. It establishes operational consistency through standards, documentation, and knowledge sharing while supporting capability development across IT support teams. It also contributes to strengthening internal expertise by mentoring Tier 1 and Tier 2 staff.

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (required or equivalent).
  • 5+ years of system administration experience with a strong focus on Microsoft 365 and Azure environments.
  • Demonstrated experience operating at a Tier 3 support level.
  • Microsoft 365 experience including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, and Entra ID (Azure Active Directory).
  • Azure experience including virtual machines, networking, storage, Azure Virtual Desktop, and identity integration.
  • Endpoint management experience including Microsoft Intune, Autopilot, device compliance, and configuration policies.
  • Identity and access experience including Entra ID, Conditional Access, multi-factor authentication, and role-based access control.
  • Core infrastructure experience including Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.
  • Security tooling experience including platforms such as AvePoint, Prisma Access, Tanium, Cortex XDR, or similar solutions.
  • Monitoring and IT service management tool experience including Jira Service Management, Confluence, or equivalent platforms.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with a root cause mindset.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into actionable guidance.
  • Proven experience in documentation and standard operating procedure development.
  • Excellent communication and mentorship abilities.
  • Strong ownership, accountability, and service orientation.
  • Excellent understanding of diversity, inclusion and equity including the ability to identify and address barriers, work effectively with diverse stakeholders, and integrate equity into service delivery practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional certifications in Microsoft 365, Endpoint Management, or Security are considered strong assets.
  • ITIL v4 Foundations preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement improvements to Microsoft 365 and Azure environments to enhance performance, scalability, cost optimization, and reliability.
  • Contribute to infrastructure and cloud projects by providing senior technical expertise and design input.
  • Lead implementation of new technologies and solutions, ensuring alignment with architecture standards and organizational requirements.
  • Assist in onboarding new services and integrating them into existing environments.
  • Define and enforce operational standards across cloud services, endpoint management, and identity systems.
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve standard operating procedures, system documentation, and knowledge base articles.
  • Ensure documentation and knowledge resources enable Tier 1 and Tier 2 teams to resolve issues efficiently and consistently.
  • Partner with IT Security to implement and maintain security controls across Microsoft 365, Azure, and endpoint environments.
  • Ensure adherence to organizational and regulatory compliance standards, including audit and security requirements where applicable.
  • Support vulnerability management, conditional access policies, device compliance, and security audit readiness.
  • Manage Azure infrastructure including virtual machines, networking, storage, Azure Virtual Desktop, and identity integrations.
  • Administer Microsoft 365 services including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, and Entra ID.
  • Lead configuration and management of Microsoft Intune for device compliance, configuration profiles, application deployment, and security policies.
  • Design and maintain Windows Autopilot deployment profiles and zero-touch provisioning processes.
  • Ensure endpoint security posture aligns with organizational security and compliance requirements.
  • Monitor system health, performance, and security across cloud and endpoint environments.
  • Identify and remediate risks, inefficiencies, and recurring issues proactively.
  • Partner with the security and infrastructure teams to support patching, updates, and lifecycle management of systems and services while ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
  • Act as the primary escalation point for complex Tier 2 and Tier 3 incidents across Microsoft 365, Azure, endpoint management, and identity services.
  • Lead deep-dive troubleshooting and root cause analysis for recurring or critical incidents.
  • Own resolution of high-impact incidents and ensure proper documentation and post-incident improvement actions are completed.
  • Provide technical mentorship, coaching, and guidance to Tier 1 and Tier 2 support staff.
  • Identify skill gaps and contribute to structured training and development plans.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
