About The Position

The Boeing Company’s Boeing Defense, Space & Security organization is seeking a System Safety Engineer to join the team in Houston, Texas. Working with the program safety team, the engineer develops analyses, requirements, and verifications to help ensure that International Space Station (ISS) systems used for docking and robotic-captured vehicles are safe for flight crew members and the on-orbit ISS crew. The role is hiring at Senior Level 4 or Level 5. The engineer leads system-level, risk-based hazard analyses; identifies and quantifies safety risks; develops control and mitigation strategies; and writes and flows down safety requirements. The position reviews vehicle-level and ISS concepts of operations, system architecture, designs, flight documents, operational scenarios, and changes for safety impacts, while collaborating with software, hardware, operations, subsystem, reliability, and NASA subject matter experts. The role includes safety analysis and documentation for ISS payloads and systems integration; compliance with NASA safety requirements; preparation and presentation of safety reports and technical briefings; participation in safety panels and technical working groups; development of test plans; and real-time and post-flight support for anomaly investigations. The engineer works with NASA, Space Station contractors, International Partners, and suppliers, and speaks up when safety deficiencies are identified.
